Hello and welcome to season 11 of I'm Your Buddy with Nick and William, the podcast where two best friends are watching and discussing the anime series Attack on Titan. I'm Nick, who has never seen Attack on Titan.
SPEAKER_00And I'm William, who's also never seen Attack on Titan. And today we're gonna discuss episode 17, Female Titan slash the 57th Expedition Part 1. Episode 18, Forest of Giant Trees, Slash the 57th Expedition Part Two. And episode 19, Bite slash the 57th Expedition Part Three.
SPEAKER_02Which I'm okay with those.
SPEAKER_00Those are good titles. Yeah. I think for the episodes. To the point I do enjoy them. How's it going today, William? It's okay. Work is stupid busy. I couldn't get out earlier. Three-day weekend? Yes. Quiet, pretty quiet weekend. I'm um I made I made headway.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Big moment for William. All right. Life-changing. One of the best things that's happened to me in a good couple weeks. There's a random uh FromSoft message board. I wish there was more uh cool From Soft news. That Sakura anime looks great. I'm very excited. I don't know when it comes out, but I keep seeing people release like little like clips of it. Okay. Looks really fucking cool. I still think you need to try and play that game.
SPEAKER_01How is the Dusk Bloods uh beta test? How are the impressions of that?
SPEAKER_00I didn't play it, but a lot of people played and said it's fun, it's silly, it's uh clever use of their gameplay mechanics. I think a lot of people are excited, but they just they made a name for themselves of being really, really good at a specific type of game, single player or PGs. They're moving back towards that. Yeah, and so I think a lot of people are just like, this isn't what I want. It's fine, but I'm not excited for it. It's a fun idea, but it's also I think the big criticism I've heard, which I think is valid, is you released a multiplayer only game exclusive to a console that's not well known for good multiplayer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. I mean, that's why they did the test, I guess. Right try to get ahead of it or something.
SPEAKER_00Which I didn't hear it was they I didn't hear they had trouble. So it's I think it's smart for Nintendo to release a like look, guys, if we're gonna take multiplayer serious, why don't we get a big deal uh developer to make our multiplayer game? And I think it's been good with like Mario Kart and stuff like that, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with Mario Kart World on Switch 2. Oh, okay. But I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_00I don't know either. But sorry, yes Neighborhood Cat has been in my courtyard lately. And I've uh I've been feeding her. She hisses, but she sticks around, so I know she's interested. I have officially pet and hung out with this cat. Nice. Yep, torty. Girl Torty, young, skinny, clean, so I know it belongs to somebody. Yeah. Very exciting. Good news. Named her Trinket. Oh, nice. Trinket. That's a good cat. She's out in my front yard. I feed her. She's cool.
SPEAKER_01Should uh steal her and keep her inside.
SPEAKER_00I guess legally, because I feed her, she's mine.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if someone's letting their cat wander around, I mean, what are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_00Which I've also heard. Did you have a collar?
unknownNope.
SPEAKER_00You're not supposed to have cats outside. Yeah, I mean like there are actual rules, and I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_01I imagine there are per county, you know what I mean, in terms especially if they're not uh microchipped or they're not spade or neutered. Yeah. I mean, it's generally not good, especially near the Bosque. Yeah, where like where you live, where we live. Yeah. Yeah, you shouldn't have outdoor cats because coyotes will get them.
SPEAKER_00Or also just because uh, you know, having babies.
SPEAKER_01No, that's what I mean. They gotta be spade or neutered and and microchipped, yeah. But yeah.
SPEAKER_00Nice big news.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's great. Big win. Yeah, over the weekend we went down to Roswell. Roshell. And um and it was, it was a hundred degrees. Really? Yeah, it's bad. And pretty humid, actually. Why'd you go? It was to see my dad. I know, I'm kidding. Oh, Paul. And he's good, yeah, yeah. He's good. And yeah, he's really mall copping it up down there. But they I guess at the suggestion of my mom, uh, we took him to one of my glory hole spots in Vaughn. Stepmother's uh dairies and farms so that Leo could see some cows in person. That's cute. He saw some baby cows, and really what he wanted to do, he told Kira he wanted to go to a farm because he wanted to see barn cats. And luckily, I love that we saw barn cats at the dairy. Uh, there was a little kitten who was unfortunately infected with something that his eyes were shut.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But he we got a little couple of kitty pets in it, but his mama was there, and so we saw her too. She was keeping an eye on him, and there was another one. Uh, so yeah, we got some some barn kitty literal barn kitten pets in this weekend, which is nice. Very cute. And he got to ride in a giant $1.2 million corn harvester.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I've done that too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That's cool. So, and this is uh one where they make corn silage, I believe, is what it's called. Where it's they're not they're not they're not using the corn to feed humans, they're they're completely shredding the plant into little bite-sized pieces for uh cows to eat. So it's just like this giant thresher maw kind of thing. And uh they were cutting the crop, uh, one of the the the giant fields of corn. And yeah, me and Leo got to sit there for literally half an hour. It's this giant two-seater, and talk to uh one of these farmers, and he was Irish, he was very nice, and just talked about his life and gave us good information. And Leo was stoked because it's a giant, I mean, you you can you literally just see it, and the corn nine foot tall, and you're way over it, and it's just literally getting chopped down and shredded right beneath you, and you have the semi-truck driving next to you, and it's spouting it and all this stuff. And literally, the guy's just like talking at a hundred miles an hour while he's controlling all this and stuff. It's very cool. Um, so Leo was super stoked about that. And even I was like, this is fucking cool, this is nice.
SPEAKER_00I've been in the corn one and I've been in like the wheat, but the it was uh Alpha Alpha cutting that stuff. I've been in those. Nice. I got to drive the Alpha Alpha one. That's cool, and then I got bored. Yeah, so I was like, Can I stop?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, that's the thing, you know. The guy he was talking about, he's just doing it for 12 hours that day, brings his own lunch. She was watching a local football match from back home. Nice and uh from Ireland, north or south? Don't know. I didn't want to get into the politics of it. Yeah, um, hope north. So uh we'll we'll see. But super nice, super nice guy. Like, literally, the Kira and um my dad and his wife were literally like waiting in the car for us. They're like, Oh, we thought you were just gonna go up a row, but we did a bunch, yeah, and like literally the guy was just like, he doesn't give a fuck. We did like three or four semi-truck pulls that's hilarious for over 30 minutes. And I'll wait.
SPEAKER_00So your dad and Kira hung out for like half an hour.
SPEAKER_01Well, they were in their truck in the truck, just waiting. I wonder what they were up to. I don't know, they're just fucking showing there on their phones or something, like wondering if we are gonna come back. And I told the guy, I was like, Yeah, we should probably after this next road, if you can drop us off. And he looked at me, he's like, You can stay here as long as you want, man. I was just like, This guy knows him. Yeah, yeah, that was great. Uh so yeah, he was very, very nice. Yeah, Leo had a great time, but it's also traveling on three-day weekends, it's always tiring because you gotta get back, you gotta do literature, you gotta, yeah. So but it was good for Leo to get out and see the calves. Yeah, I literally just saw like freshborn calves trying to walk and and stuff like that. And that's cute. Yeah, it was the usual Rajwell shtick, but it wasn't too bad. It wasn't too bad. It's always fun to see my dad with Leo, he always has such a good time. Yeah, and then every once in a while they'll dip into politics and it'll just be like, all right, I'm not gonna do this anymore.
SPEAKER_00You tell you how stupid Deb Holland is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my dad was confusing AOC and Omar. Two people that have nothing to do with New Mexico politics. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. He was he thought that you he thought AOC was in Michigan, and I'm like, no, no, that's not he's like, really?
SPEAKER_00Oh that's and that tells you all you need to know on where he got his news is the place where they're complaining about these people. But this is the Colin Quinn bit of like your dad in New Mexico should not know constituents of New Jersey and Michigan and New York and Connecticut. Like we're not built to know that knowledge. Yeah. America wasn't bit that's why we have the political system we do. Yeah. Is because they had to get away.
SPEAKER_01They'll do with their shit. Yeah. You we deal with our shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The fact that he knows No more is like, ah, you're not supposed to, man. You're supposed to know your stuff and vote your stuff and let everybody else do what they do.
SPEAKER_01No, it's all bullshit. It's all fucking bullshit. Yeah, literally the morning that we were leaving, I don't know, my stepmother was complaining about fucking illegal aliens or whatever and being uncomfortable. Or she that's she doesn't admit, but it's like she works for a dairy. Of course, they hire illegal people, even though you know a lot of times these guys are fucking giving out weird social security numbers or something like that, right? But like she's like, Yeah, you know, and they just fucking lie to us, and blah blah blah's like, all right, well then hire some hire some fucking white people to do their job, then like you're literally in charge of this. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00You have your hand on the wheel.
SPEAKER_01They're literally just trying to have a fucking better life and send money back to their fucking family in Mexico, and you're shitting on them for doing work for you. Yeah, like it's insane. Yeah, so like and if they weren't there, what would they be complaining about? No one wants to fucking work. It's just like these people want to work, let them fucking work. Like, it's just fucking madness to me. It's just a hundred percent horseshit. They're all fucking hypocrites.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's just it's the it's the other. That's all it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's just that's that's literally what I told my dad. He was talking, he said some shit. I don't know. I genuinely don't remember what we get what it brought up, but he's like, Oh, yeah. I was I was like, Yeah, dad, you don't you just realize it's just rich people trying to make you hate people who are different than you? Like, that's literally what it is. Like, how have you guys not tapped into this? He's like, Oh, well, what about you know that that lady who used to be a bartender and she's the senator in uh Michigan and and she's worth 50 million dollars now? I'm like, one, you're getting two people mixed up, yeah, and that has nothing to do with what we were just talking about. Literally nothing to do with it. Literally nothing anything. Yeah, I'm like, yeah, but I don't you know what I mean. These people have been gripted and fucked so hard by Trump, it's like they just you know, they can't even fathom, they don't want to talk about it anymore. Now they're apolitical, you know. Oh, Paul, I don't like politics, you know.
SPEAKER_00It's just like Yeah, because shit got too real for you. Pussy.
SPEAKER_01I know exactly, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, which we all knew that that was the case anyway. Well, it's also uh the older you are, you can just you can hit the I'm tired. Exactly. You you cost January 6th, and then everyone goes, hey, we need to talk about this. They go, I'm tired. That hurts.
SPEAKER_01Hey, you fucked up our entire country. You guys were we were the hippies, and now you're good like the corporate fucking stooges, and now you're like, uh, I'm over it.
SPEAKER_00You guys ran it into the gram. That's what it is because you're lazy, yeah. You guys made this not fun anymore, so I don't want to raise the fucking federal minimum wage in 17 fucking years. So I had a broker meeting, and because uh I work with brokers, you gotta keep the relationship good. Sure. You got point neutral. Deb Holland came up. Okay. Local politics came up because I always like to get a feel for who I'm talking to. And are you born and raised here? Have you moved around and stuff? Born and raised here, even though she hates politically how New Mexico has been run for so long, and then they start talking about how dumb Deb Holland is and how all of these things that she's trying to get across won't ever happen. These things don't work, they never have, they never will. And it gets awkward because I uh one of the problems I have is I'm there with two other of my co-workers. One of them is young girl, cool, awesome, progressive. So she's like like awkward, shut down, and then the other one I'm with right on board with this one. They're both right leaning. And I I know the the what I should do in that scenario is just go, yeah, that's crazy. Anyways, back to work. Yeah, I just can't help myself, yeah. And I don't fight because he can't, and I can't come and go well. Exactly. And then it just gets awkward, and it's also I don't even know Deb Holland. I don't I didn't vote if that already happened, so like I'm not educated enough to get into this.
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_00So I'm trying to walk that line of how to have this conversation respectfully, yeah. And so the best I could do, because she was complaining that we're always blue, but it's just poorly managed. And I was like, they keep running certain ideals, and I think we're so hurt and desperate for something better that maybe that's at a certain time good enough. And maybe you're mad that no one's asking, how do we pull it off? It's that we're not even there yet. That's how broken and desperate a lot of the voting age range in the workforce is in this state. We're so impoverished, we're so rural, we're so hurt, we're not even there to nitpick at the good help coming our way. I was like, I think you need to think about that. That why do all of these, as you put it, idiots with ideas that will never work, why do they keep getting voted in? It's because we're so desperate for one of those ideas to actually work. Yeah, yeah. And every other person proposing has nothing that will benefit our day-to-day life. The other side isn't speaking in a way that's making us feel taken care of or respected. Yeah, that's why that doesn't win.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like, so you're almost arguing a completely different point that no one else is arguing. You've skipped over the whether you like it or not. You went straight to logically how. Yeah. It's like we're not even there yet. And I think you need to look at that and look at the people in this state and where they're living to understand why they keep wanting these idealistic things to come across.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I feel like I'm trying to ride that line pretty well of like this is a positive, you're being too critical, blah, blah, blah. But no one's an idiot, no one's stupid. Like, I'm trying to ride that line. And then it just hits me at a certain point. I was like, who's this for? Like, no one at this table gives a shit. I'm doing this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, yeah, that's why you're supposed to go, oh, that's crazy. Anyways, I was like, no one cares.
SPEAKER_01Because they just want to complain, they don't want they don't actually want a solution, they don't want anything.
SPEAKER_00They don't.
SPEAKER_01No, they just want to think that they're right, and that's if I agreed, it's cool because then we're on the same page.
SPEAKER_00But no one actually wants to think about anything, no one wants to have empathy for the other side. No, and I was like, I'm just wasting time and energy. Yep. Having a conversation no one else wants to have.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Like I'm threading a line that no one gives a shit. And I was like, what am I doing? Just eat your food and go back to the office. Yeah, I don't know. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's I mean, I think that's probably one of the biggest challenges of this time politically. It's just not feeling fucking hopeless about shit. And not necessarily just like, uh, whatever. It just like you can't have an effect on giant, massive things. But it was always like that. I know, I know.
SPEAKER_00Clinton did the fucking NAFTA. No, and I'm not Clinton fucked us. Like Reagan, everybody.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I'm just saying it's now it's so such much more prevalent and it's much more obvious. You know, the grift is out in the open and no one's fucking doing anything.
SPEAKER_00You're right. Back to the example, your dad knows who Ilan Omar and AOC are. Like that's where we're at like the the shorthand of the argument sound bites is so ready readily accessible that like these fights are always there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it's all being encouraged by the algorithm and all this kind of stuff. It's just it's literally the fucking oligarchs are pitting everyone against each other. And it's like people aren't interested in being unified, they're interested in being right or indignant, you know what I mean? So it's just it's so fucking depressing that you gotta, it's the fucking corny thing of you gotta fucking fix what you can fix and do something for yourself or or do something locally or something like that. Go to a fucking soup kitchen or something to make you feel like you can make a fucking difference.
SPEAKER_00Literally at a local level is the biggest thing you can do, it's you know, to quote uh the great Malcolm Reynolds is I look out for me and mine that doesn't include you unless I conjure it does. Is like, yeah, you you gotta make your bubble your bubble and care about that. It's exhausting though, yeah, that it works that way.
SPEAKER_01Well, and reach out, yeah. I mean, you can do community and stuff like that, but you should, yeah.
SPEAKER_00There is one thing happening politically that me and you cannot talk about, and I won't say it, but there is one thing where there are younger politicians bucking against this systematic trend of having foreign influence over our government, and this foreign influence used to never be questioned, and I think the last like five, six years, uh people are questioning it and people are taking a stand against it. Yep. That is different, and that is my example of that doesn't happen if we weren't so pissed off with Trump because that woke a lot of young people up to get politically active, run for office, win, and then you put a camera in front of their face, and they're pretty good at public speaking, they're pretty good at marketing and the media, and they know how to do this. And they're also here saying, I didn't come from that money, so I can speak out against it. Yeah, it didn't get me here, and it's not keeping me here, so I actually can speak out, as opposed to a lot of these guys that when you look back, they're like, I don't know, your money came from Reagan, your money came from Bush. Like, yeah, you're blue now, but like you got a lot of red money, and you got a lot of this foreign money, and they know they can't speak up about certain things. Ted Cruz is a great example of this. They're bottom paid for so you see the younger political edge to this where they go, nah, let's bang it out, let's do this, let's actually talk about it. Yeah, and I do think that is a cultural shift in a very interesting and positive direction. I agree. It still gives me hope. As cynical and bleak and nihilistic, it can talk about our political the fact that there is a younger skew towards uh progressive politics. Of course, it's not as fast as anybody wants. Of course, we want more and quicker, but it it is in the right direction. And I do like that. Yeah, there's we're not as complacent as always hope in the past as we have been in the past.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's the thing, our generation is kind of trying to contend with it. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, because I'm being a new father, it's just it's it's a fucking challenging thing. Because it's like that, it's like the boomers have given up. They're just like, uh Who gives a shit? I'm tired. I don't want to talk about it anymore. Oh, stop, stop blaming us for your problems and all the shit. She's like, Are you fucking serious? Yeah, um, it's like, well, just give me more some more fucking money, you know what I mean? Yeah. The prices of shit go down, then I'll stop complaining.
SPEAKER_00Every time they're like, you guys in your internet, it's like, motherfucker, you made it. Yeah, your generation made it. You literally gave it to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now you're mad that I use it too much.
SPEAKER_01Well, and you made it. They'll criticize it, but they'll be on their phones 10 hours a fucking day, just the same uh looking at AI cat videos.
SPEAKER_00At the end, you turn into children again. Yeah, and so yeah, it's they can't go a dinner without looking at a cat driving a truck, going, is this real? Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01They can't, but it's I have an idea for a story that I want to tell that kind of goes around this. I just, you know, it's one of those that's just in sitting in my notes app kind of thing. But it's like, yeah, how do you contend with bringing your children into a broken world? Which the world's always been broken, humanity's broken, sure. It's just as positive as it is negative, and the world has never been perfect, the world's never been safer. People have never lived longer than they do now. Uh, we're definitely in a tumultuous time in our country, that's for sure. But a lot of the stuff that our generation sees as common sense in terms Of human dignity and how we should treat each other, and not just in our own country, but across the world, and examples of other countries in the world who treat their citizens better than our country does. Like we see these things, but we feel powerless to enact them in our own country. And what does that mean for our children? You know what I mean? What kind of example is that? Just like our parents are not great examples to us in terms of what they've done uh or allowed uh to happen to transpire as they've come into power. So it's so it's tough.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. It's uh they're they're the they're the change we couldn't do. So you raise your kid to have more empathy than you saw your parents have. Yeah. You have more for him, sure. And it it exponentially grows through generations. I think that's why it's always uh mean you have definitely talked about it. It's like it does kind of suck that you know good people in your life and they don't have kids, and you're like, guys, at a certain point we gotta get crass with this. The dumb people are having them quicker, and the good people aren't because they see the realities and the horrors, and that's crippling. Well, and I think dumb people are having them.
SPEAKER_01Well, and well, and yeah, I mean, that's the whole idioc idiocracy joke, right? Yeah, but also I do think a lot of my generation doesn't want to contend with their own fucking trauma. As much as we get uh you know labeled as the therapized generation, I know that, you know, or at least in my opinion, I think a lot of friends that I have just consciously or not, uh, think that they'd be bad parents, like maybe their parents were, so they choose not to have children because they because we're aware of our issues.
SPEAKER_00They don't want this generation knows exactly I'm I'm gay or I'm autistic or I'm ugly or I'm sick.
SPEAKER_01Or my I didn't feel loved by my parents, so I don't think I could love my child, which isn't true. But um, and I don't think that they're they're right. They're l they're letting the anxiety win. Yeah, uh, as we like to say in I'm your buddy bingo. But I mean, that's a different conversation. And hey, if you don't want kids, I'm I don't want you to have kids. Well uh people who don't want their kids are part of the problem. Yeah, that's how I got here.
SPEAKER_00That's that's how we got here.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of parents and you talk about that, yeah. You that was the clip for last week's episode. Yeah and my dad liked it when I when I uh reposted it on Instagram. My dad liked the clip.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was like, oh man, so fucking funny. I have a few random things I want to talk about, but first housekeeping two. One, how are you? And two, do you have a question for me?
SPEAKER_01Oh shit. I was supposed to come up with a question. Yeah, that's a good that's that's I I don't have a question for you. Uh I'll try to think of one by the end of the episode. Sure. I forgot that that was my homework that I had set for myself. I apologize. Yeah, last week has been such a fucking nightmare at work. Busy, busy, busy and and travel. And travel, yeah. So I I I accidentally neglected that. Uh, but I'm okay. Yeah, just tired from the weekend. But it was genuinely one of those things where it's just like when we were there and spending some family time as as you know frustrating as it can be, as it led to this entire fucking bitch, you know, sesh we just had. But I was genuinely like, oh, this is great. Yeah, like this is very nice. It's one of those moments where you get to see life in a more simple way through your child's eyes, and you get a little bit of nostalgia for that time of being a child. Because I think that's what that's what we yearn for when we're thinking about the good parts of our childhood. It's just the lack of responsibility, the wonder, the purity, the wonder of it. So Kira's cousin's wife's father, who is like Leo's cousin's grandfather, right? So, like a couple years ago when when Leo was first born, he was he was talking about like don't and this sounds like negative, he wasn't telling me not to do something, but he was talking about how children are very special before they gain self-consciousness, and how you know they'll hit elementary school level and they'll be around each other a little bit more, and there's still a bit of that wonder and that discovery, but they learn about judgment and they learn about they get scared to maybe express themselves in certain ways, where for the first five years of their lives, it's just pure expression, yeah. And there's no self-consciousness, there's just who they are and what they're experiencing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Leo's gotta go to school with a kid that gets beat at home, and then he's like, you don't even know what I'm about to bring to your doorstep.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. You just learn from your peers, it's social, it's part of socialization, right? You know, and I hadn't really seen that in action until more recently, because he's become obviously more of a little person as he's getting older, he's only three still, but like there's so much kind of purity and and beauty and him experiencing things for the first time, and you see what interests him, and he just isn't afraid to be himself. Where you know, I'm fucking terrified to be myself a lot of the time. And yeah, it's just kind of a cool thing to see. And this weekend was one of those moments, you know, where I'm just like, oh yeah, this is I need to consciously note this moment and be like, this feels great, you know, to kind of witness this for this little human being that I'm responsible for. It's very, very kind of cool and gotta jot it down and and it's well, you're in the moment.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I was like, I very much see what this family member was talking about because that's gonna suck, you know, one day when he comes home from school and with shame, yeah. You know what I mean? Something like that. And hopefully I can, you know, recognize it and talk to him about it and be like, yeah, you know, fuck him or whatever. You know, uh who that guy, that guy's fucking lame. But I don't want to give him my judgmental side here because that's all insecurity and that's all shame for me, you know, as well. So uh we'll cross that bridge when it gets there. But for now, it's yeah, it's kind of amazing just to just to kind of see that. So it's cool to see that. And then it was Kira's birthday yesterday on on Labor Day. And happy birthday, Kira. Yes, happy birthday, Kira. And but I didn't get her anything. And this is one of those things where it's just like, again, work was so fucking crazy dealing with all this shit. It's like you have these nice moments with your family, and then you're like, Oh yeah, and I just fucked up. And I mean, I got her flowers and and stuff, but it's flowers is great, and everyone's like, uh, no one knows what to get her, you know. It's always tough when you're an adult, but still I'm like, god damn, I should have come up with something. And I hope I still do. Hopefully by the time she hears this next week. But uh, but yeah, so it's you know good, good and bad stuff, but also I mean, and her birthday is obviously a good thing. We had a nice little party with her family yesterday and stuff, but yeah, ups and downs, and yeah, just I don't, yeah, I'm I don't know, man. Just it's stuff, you don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Life life, sorry, that's that's right, yeah. One battle after another. But yeah, fuck a question. I will think of a question. Yeah, shit. That doesn't involve me. That's gonna be a real challenge. I have a question for you though. Oh no, this is backfired.
SPEAKER_00No, this is uh a genuine question, a stupid, nerdy question. How do you feel about the announcement today? You get a full trailer of Ocarina Time footage, yes, one of your favorite games, top three, or absolute greatest game of all time to Nick.
SPEAKER_01My favorite game of all time.
SPEAKER_00Your favorite of all time is getting a full-on remake.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How do you feel about the footage? I can't fucking wait.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And I'm already gonna have a problem with the internet, and I already do. Um what's your problem?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, people don't like it.
SPEAKER_01No, no, and I I mean, some people don't, I guess. But like, you know, I follow snarky websites, right? Yeah. Like Kotaku and shit like that, where it's again, the internet. Nick was pro-Gamergate, by the way. No, I was not, absolutely not. Um have we how many times have we talked about how much I love The Last of Us Part 2 in here? Uh the the snarky bullshit of like, oh, the redesigns just look like the fucking uh Unreal Engine remake that they've been making for 10 years, some fucking guy or whatever. It's just like you mean it's just modern fucking technology? So you you think it looks kind of like that? That's literally what it is. That guy was literally remaking it in high definition. That's literally what they're doing. Yeah, but guess what? Is that guy fucking the minds at Nintendo who are the co-create the fucking creators of this franchise and who have made a hundred fucking great games? No, it's not. So I'm gonna fucking I'll trust these guys any fucking day. Like I don't I don't I just don't get it. And they're like, oh, the redesigns link looks so fuck he doesn't look right. Oh, there's something about it. It's just like just fucking wait, man. I have so many fucking notes that the amount of the internet that's just filled with fucking complainers, which I understand the irony of me calling someone a complainer, but for fuck's sake, it's just like just when they announced the teaser trailer, whatever, six months ago or whenever it was. Yeah, I don't even remember when it was, but they're like, Oh my god, this looks like shit, and then you watch the fucking gameplay of this, it looks fucking amazing. Yeah, I'm like, how can you the amount of cynicism we've talked about this with Star Wars before? And all seven of them, all eight of them. Uh the thing that you love still exists. So, like, when it comes to remakes and stuff like this, I mean, because that's all they're they're remaking a bunch of shit. Final Fantasy, yeah, fucking rebooting all this stuff all the time from especially from our childhoods, and Nintendo has come out and talked about it. They just re-redid Star Fox 64 as as 64, and Miyamoto had actually talked about like, yeah, a lot of these games, the kids aren't interested in playing the older, clunkier versions, so but these are seminal experiences for a lot of people, so we want to update them so that more people can fucking play them. Yeah, and the newer generations can play them. It's like, yeah, that makes a hundred percent fucking sense. And considering how like nostalgia-driven our generation is generation is like I don't understand why we have to bitch so much about this kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_00I think because you're you they have a passion and it's another opportunity to grow it. My example is because your example is this, and I'm giving you you you are your own person, but I'm giving you you have two examples is Zelda and The Last of Us. The Last of Us is a TV show, and season two is a redo of your favorite game, Last of Us part two, and the show didn't do a good job with it. You are upset at the show for squandering a good opportunity to grow and establish something, but also just you get to see it done from a different angle or just it with a bigger budget, live action with actors, you whatever it is, but like there's an excitement to that. My example would be, and I didn't watch it for this reason. They made a Halo TV show, and it's supposed to be atrociously bad. There are fans going, I'm finally getting something, and then when it's bad, they do yell and go, Why'd you why'd you why'd you break it? Why'd you do it wrong? Like, I kind of get it. There is a passion there, yes.
SPEAKER_01And yeah, this is putting it in more perspective for me, actually. So that's helpful. I appreciate that. That's a translation thing, yeah. And it's different because you're switching mediums, so you're adapting a video game story into a different medium, and actually, this ties into the Zelda announcement today because it was the 40th anniversary, yeah. Nintendo Direct, which they announced the title of the movie next year.
SPEAKER_00And then on my phone too much today. It's just called The Legend of Zelda. Surprise, surprise. Perfect. And kind of it would okay, whatever. It would be cool if they gave it its own legend. Like a game, you know what I mean? It'd be cool.
SPEAKER_01So but I don't know what they're doing. What Miyamoto said was we are this is an original story pulling from all of the Zelda stories and forging its own tale. And I'm like, shout out, Grant. There's gonna be a train. I was like, yeah, it's gonna be fucking yeah, that'd be hilarious, actually. Fucking uh spirit tracks adaptation, but that would yeah, it's Zelda Spirit Tracks, the movie. They I was like, that is the smartest way you could fucking because that's of course, you're gonna take all the things that people like and you can spin your own tail, you're not gonna have a one-to-one comparison, and that's the problem with the Halo TV showing that's the problem with Last of Us Part Two season or whatever, Last of Us Season Two, adapting Last of Us Part Two, the video game, adapting, exactly. It's that adaptation where you set, oh well, we're gonna try. I mean, with Halo, they didn't even fucking try. I think that was the problem with that. But with Last of Us, that was their issue, is you cannot directly adapt what makes the story special because it's so tied into the gameplay and the players' experience of playing the game. So that's that's kind of the problem with there. But like with a Zelda thing, that's smart. We're not trying to remake specifically Ocarina of Time for a movie. We're not making Twilight Princess the movie, we're not making Breath of the Wild the movie, that kind of thing. And I think I'm not as upset about these types of things when it comes to the remakes, just like just like we've talked about with Star Wars and just like you know, with other things like being a comic book fan, I'm much more used to being forgiving when characters that I love are shitty for a while. Yeah. Because with that's what happens with comic books. Sometimes it'd be a great Batman run, and then for fucking five years, Batman is garbage and it fucking sucks. I love Batman. Same with Spider-Man, same with the X-Men. It's a constant thing being a comic book fan of like, oh, this is a writer that I really like writing a character that I like. So this is this is awesome to me. I fucking love the way that this writer writes, and I love what they do with this character, or I love this artist that's on this book, so I love seeing him do this, and then guess what? That run ends, and then someone who's doesn't do the thing that you like with that character comes on, and so you stop reading it for a couple years. And when you pick it up and you look at it, you're like, Oh, what the fuck is this? I don't want to read this shit.
SPEAKER_00But you guys fucked up and you let sports fans into the nerd world and the way the sports work is they're sh stakeholders, and so if I'm mad enough my team's losing, guess what happens? They fire the coach, yeah. Which they do, they fire the coach. No, no, no, no, no. They don't really. You do your run, and if they don't like it, they don't bring you back, but like they don't fire new.
SPEAKER_01Midseason, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01They left.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, you see what I'm saying? Is like they have the feeling of I'm part of the process.
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_00They brought that into the nerd culture world of because my money is the thing that pays for you to do the thing, I'm actually part of it. Sure. So if I don't like it, you're supposed to react to that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, and the internet's created the illusion that they have power over that because they have a voice, right? You can shout into the fucking void and it makes you feel powerful because strangers like your comment or whatever, right?
SPEAKER_00How much of the like nerd trodic and all of those like um kind of shitty corners of video game comic book and movie nerd realm? It is so much like sports radio. They have people calling in, they just sit there and bitch and cave. Like, I'm telling you, they they they took this whole thing. Gotcha, and it is such to me, it's so built into how these arguments go about, and that's where it's crazy. But the other unfortunate part is um, real quick, you can use the show lanterns as an example. Yeah, if you don't like a part in that show, I could say, ah, they're fucking with Hal Jordan, he doesn't do that. You can go, actually, he does. All I have to do is five minutes, get on Wikipedia, become an expert on Hal Jordan, and go, actually, that was in only four issues in 1998. Ever since then, they don't do that anymore. So your whole thing's invalid. Like I can be a subject matter expert in minutes without putting the time and the sweat equity into it. Sure. So now all of these arguments are it's there's nothing tethered to this as a passion. Yeah. It's just arguing stats and numbers. I think that's it's a waste of time.
SPEAKER_01It's wanting to be right. Exactly. It's wanting to be right, wanting to feel acknowledged by others that you there's some kind of meaning in your fucking opinion.
SPEAKER_00Like and then the negative is to feel powerful, I think. That's my negative cynical. To make other people feel little or whatever, because they like something. You want to wave it around.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So it's like to swing back to the Zelda remake and all this kind of stuff. I'm fucking stoked. I believe in Nintendo. Everyone knows that I'm a fucking Nintendo bootletter. Especially Zelda. Exactly. It's my favorite fucking thing. I believe in them. I think it looks fucking gorgeous. I think it looks cool. I love that fucking game. I've said forever, if there was an afterlife, that's exactly what will happen. I will die, and it will that fucking loading screen will come on, and that'll just be awkward and have time. It's beautiful. It's just means so much to me. It's embedded in my fucking soul. And guess what? It's okay. If the roof remake sucks, I still have the original. What's is it gonna go back in time and make me not play the original as a fucking child? Is it gonna fucking rip that out of my fucking soul? No, who fucking gives a shit? Stop complaining. They are not taking anything away from you. And I that but like our generation is so fucking media savvy, and for us to complain as much as we do about this kind of stuff, I get it when it's a cynical cash grab. I fucking get it. Every company needs to fucking make money. I'm sorry, capitalism fucking sucks. That's just how it goes. Yeah, we know that that's the fucking reality, and Nintendo never lowers the price of their shit. We know that they're fucking stingy. Wait, this is a they sue people into fucking oblivion. They're not some kind of perfect altruistic company, they're not to act like they're just gonna fucking fumble this thing, and guess what? If they do, it's it's fine. You are gonna be okay. Fucking return the game. Just get off the fucking stop fucking complaining about something that you don't know how it's gonna be. And if you are so fucking nostalgic about the original, go fucking play the original. I know you have the means to, you probably still have your fucking uh console. Go fucking do it. Go buy a CRT TV, fucking load it up, and shut the fuck up. Let other people, let children enjoy it. Like, for fuck's sake, or maybe I don't know, open up, let yourself enjoy it. Stop being such a fucking miserable person. So it's like I I I'm I get that, I couldn't be fucking more excited. I think it looks gorgeous. I cannot wait to fucking play it. It looks so fucking cool, the textures look great. It's not only is it fucking HD, like the way that they're redesigning, not I mean, uh, it seems like they're tweaking the map a little bit, but the way that the brilliance of oh yeah, we're thinking of vertical space much more than we are, and we're thinking about tunnels, like you know, they're interpreting the maps and the the layouts of the levels in a different way, not just like like the guy who was rebuilding in an Unreal engine for the past 10 years who's just putting in HD polish textures, putting in details, exactly, like they're fucking tweaking it. Of course, you don't think that those people, these designers have fucking seen that, and they're like, Oh, yeah, let's do something different for like yeah, the thing, yeah, and I mean what it comes down to again with a lot of these people, and I think you're 100% right about the the sports analogy and letting the fucking wrong people take so much space in the fucking fandom, or at least the media surrounding fandom uh with nerdy shit, but like they don't think about this shit like creators, no, they're not creative people, no, absol fucking Luly not. All they are are consumers, they've never created something of their own, ever. And so the creative thought of or the thought of them looking at these as these are people recreating a game. So, like a lot of these executives at Nintendo, they grew up playing the fucking game, they're our age, they get to work alongside uh Aunuma and Miyamoto, these guys who fucking made this game, because in Japanese business culture, old people were salary man. They they are fucking respected and they are looked upon as peers who are passing down fucking wisdom and knowledge to you. So like when you're a fucking 20-something guy who just gets hired at Nintendo, you immediately get to work with fucking Miyamoto and talk about shit. Like if you join the Mario team or whatever, you work with him about making Mario games. Like it's not you are replacing Miyamoto. It's no, you're learning as much as you fucking can, and then you get to run with your ideas and get their input. Like that's fucking cool. No, no companies in America do that, right? Yeah. So like it's cool for people our age and even younger who grew up playing this game, they're working with the guys who made it to remake it and be like, oh hey, let's add this in, or oh, let's change this thing, or whatever. Like, and they're all media savvy, they all fucking know how big of a deal this game is. So like I'm thinking of those creators, yeah. Where all the people out there are just like, oh, they changed the way his face looks, it looks like shit.
SPEAKER_00Nah, they wokeified it. Sheik is trans. Yeah, exactly. They wokeified it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can pay, I now see Sheik's ponytail, which was in the original design. But I'm like, no, you're just fucking stupid, man. Like you're pay attention to the wrong things, you know what I mean? They're they're just not they don't they forget that people make this shit. Yeah. And at least I think this particular group of people are gonna try to do justice. Yeah, exactly. So, and guess what? It again, if it sucks, nothing is taken an aquarine of time away from you, it still exists. So your favorite game of all time. Exactly. I'm I'm being gonna be okay. I hear you. So I'm incredibly excited. I cannot fucking wait. I was just my jaw was fucking on the floor when I saw once he started playing some gameplay. I was just like, this looks so fucking cool. I love that for you.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. It makes me happy that you're this excited for it. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's so cool. It's my favorite game. Yeah, I love it so fucking much. That's awesome. Just like uh Mike Sanchez, who I think is also gonna be very excited to play this, where he loves the character, Gwen Stacy, more than other real human thing beings in his life. I love Ocarina of Time more than people in my life. Yeah, you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_00Name them. Just kidding.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be a long time. I know, I know. Um, but yeah, it's means the world to me and it looks awesome. That's all pretty. Definitely be taking a day or two off of work as this year as an adult. November? Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, fuck. It's actually the weekend of the 15k race that I'm fucking doing. Cancel it. Shit. No, it's alright. I'll be able to do it. That'll be my reward.
SPEAKER_00You run to Ocarina. Have Kira hold it at the finish line. That'd be sick. Run while playing. Handheld mode. And then you trip, you fall, you smash the switch. Exactly. And your pants fall and you grind your tennis on the gravel.
SPEAKER_01Tennis. Good luck. Just grind it. I like that. Sorry, yeah. I ran I talked way too long about it.
SPEAKER_00I was curious. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So my question for you, just kidding, this doesn't count actually. But I was gonna ask, just what did you think about these episodes? Because we should actually get into them. Oh, yeah, we get into these now. How are you feeling? Because you have been more positive on this show than you uh than I have. And we started a new arc, six episode little arc within this season, and it's six episodes. We watched the first three. So what do you think about these?
SPEAKER_00I I overall like them. There's there's a few things I didn't love, but yeah, uh energy. The there's a momentum, they're getting to it. I think last episode's was more of the same, just over and over build up, build up, build up, build up. And this one, we're just we're on horses, we're running, like literal forward momentum running, not story-wise so much, but just we're getting shit done. I thought it was cool. I love the change of scenery. We're outside, we got capes, we're in the woods. I I really like that. The horses, the flares, the human radar, like all of this is new. None of this is, yeah, we already did this, or we've already been here. So I was enjoying a lot of these episodes and what they're doing. For sure. And then I think the only thing that I wasn't loving is once they're in the woods, it did feel a little too long of the female Titan behind them, and them like, what are we doing? Why are we doing it? Why don't we do this? Like that felt too drawn out. Sure. And I was like, I just uh I'm not loving it. A little too anxious, a little too yelly about the rules and stuff. I was like, just do it or don't sort of thing. But overall, I was like, no, this is cool, this is uh creative. That's what I like about it. Like the world building and the concept of how they do these things is nothing like how you fight or function in the walls. So I was like, yeah, this is the stuff I like. This is the stuff that tickles uh my brain, these creative ideas, and then how they trap it and who it is, all of that stuff. Yeah, I really did like these. These were a lot of fun to watch. I liked them.
SPEAKER_01That's good.
SPEAKER_00How did you like them? More of the same?
SPEAKER_01The show is extremely frustrating to me because I agree with you. I like all this development.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like the things that we're learning, the lore. Who is this giant woman titan? I want to know what's up with that. That's cool that they're like, oh she holds the back of her neck. That's so cool. She knows. Yeah, exactly. So there, she's their theory is she's a person like Aaron who's in control of this Titan body. What is her, what are her motivations? That's cool. She's killing people, not eating them. You know, we're getting the lore, we're getting the backstory more of like trying to see the scientist experiment on Aaron. He can't transform when he's biting, and how he gained the trust of his his uh squad basically, uh, through the bites. I like that through the flashback and them wanting him to trust him. They fucking hate him when he accidentally transforms, and then they apologize and are like, hey man, we gotta trust each other, and then it comes back, he sees the bite marks. I like all that stuff. I like when we as the audience are just as in the dark as the main character, just like you know, he trusts him at the end, and then they kick uh capture the the female titan, and he wasn't aware that they were gonna do that, right? I I like that a lot, but but I fucking hate the pace of it. There's and there's something in the way that they tell the story, and then and something in the in the structure of it. Some is that okay. I hope I can put my finger on it if it continues, you know what I mean? Like, if the entire show is structured like this, I am gonna be so fucking mad. I seriously, like all the stuff that gets revealed, all the lore, all that stuff, it's very interesting. And I'm like, oh, cool, we're outside, we're learning how some of this stuff works, but the way that they tell the story is infuriating to me. The amount of times, especially in this, like you're saying, forward momentum, the amount of times we go into the the voiceover POV of the characters, and they're saying these things as they're just sitting there fucking riding their horse. If if this was on mute, I wouldn't know what the fuck is going on. Yeah. And and oftentimes that's what's talked about in in you know film classes, right? If you can watch it on mute and understand what's going on, that means the visual storytelling is very good, and you have a talented director and presumably writer, right? With this show, I'm like, stop going in into these people's heads. Just show their fucking actions or have them talk to each other. I was so thankful when those two guys uh are going with Aaron and he's like, Oh, I think this is female Titan is just like, or no, Arwen. Sorry. They're uh when the guys are riding with Arwen after they get attacked by the the female Titan, and he's like, I think this female Titan is just like Aaron. When they're actually having the conversation and the two dudes are like different perspectives on it, I'm like, this is what you should be doing when you're having conversations. Don't let these people have internal monologues, have them talk to somebody, like, and I get if they're talking out also while doing something.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, they didn't stop to have the conversation, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Which there are way too many moments of just we're holding on a frame on a horse, and the guy's like, Oh yeah, but I think I'm gonna die again, blah blah. It's just like shut the fuck up, just go for it, and then you get crushed anyway. So I don't know. I I'm so fucking frustrated by that. There's just something about it, and I I the more it happens, I I hope I can articulate it a little bit better. But um, yeah, I don't, I literally am just taking notes and I'm like, this show is fucking boring. We get cool bits of information, but genuinely I am bored watching this show, not having a good time. But I get that. I know what you're talking about. I'm torn, you know what I mean? Yeah, there's cool.
SPEAKER_00I feel similar, not as much, but I I feel everything you're saying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it I'm just like, there's gotta be a better way to do this.
SPEAKER_00There's gotta be a fucking better way. I was thinking about that with Friday Night Lights. I was like, I think you would like it so much more if it was just two seasons. You're not here to dilly down. Like you need a well tell us. We gotta get on with it. You don't wanna, and I don't mean this as a negative, and I don't know another way to say, you're not here to live in their world and all of that. You're like a you gotta tell, you know, because Better Call Saul was long, but they told a long story. Yeah, like a lot was changing and developing, and it was structured for some. They're doing visual storytelling, so you're not just saying get there quicker, but yeah, it's it's uh the same with I think when an album's too long, you're like uh there were multiple songs I would have skipped. I didn't need them. Yeah, you guys could have did what you had to do in a shorter amount of time, and so while we're watching the show, you keep saying, This could have been one episode, these three could have been one, and I think it's because that's how your brain works, is like you're giving me information I either already have or don't need this way. You could give it to me in a line, you give it to me in a scene, and we can move on. Yeah, for you to make me sit in it, you're like, uh make me sit in it when it's really important to get across what it feels like to be in it, but you're doing it at times where it feels like you guys are just it's as if your budget was for 25, yeah, and your script was for 13. Yeah, and you're gonna make that it's that Netflix thing of like it feels like padding.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Where and that's part of the fun of writing to me is efficiency.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So how can you build it into character moments and build it into drama? The things that not only make you care about the characters, but the things that are interesting about the plot, yeah, and the things that are interesting about the world, like that challenge is fascinating to me, and it's magic when it works. Absolutely. When you go back and examine a fucking great movie that you love, you're so engrossed in the story that you don't realize how much information they're giving you or these little things that they're doing to make you care about the characters is because you're fucking engrossed in what's happening in the moment. That's awesome. That's such a cool thing to me. So when it's obvious, or not obvious, but when it feels like they're just treading water in a moment, and I'm like, fuck man, you you could be doing something here. You could instead of like this scene and this thing, you combine those two scenes in an interesting way, and we could, you know, actually have a compelling scene rather than one fucking boring scene and one cool scene, you know what I mean? But the boring and the cool together, and maybe it could equal something more interesting.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, it's I also I I do like it. I get horny for it like you, just not as much. My example, okay, I just rewatched Shauna the Dead. Nice. Every once in a while, my brain will go, I don't know if it gets better than Shauna the Dead. Yeah, every single moment in that movie is either setting up something for a callback or a payoff, or it's giving you vital information. There is not an a wasted inch of space. Nope. Everything is building the character, the plot, ever like it's insane how well constructed that film is while also being a good zombie movie and also just being hilarious. Yeah. And they're doing both at the same time when they argue over killing his mom Barbara, deep emotion, tears, great directing, great drama, also hilarious at the exact same time. Yep. Like they know simultaneously. All right, well, now here's the serious part because you're watching a zombie movie. No, it's still really fucking funny and never cutting away from how serious of a moment it is, or just how well constructed everything is. Yep. Like they never they all of those at the exact same time in the exact same scene. So yeah, I'll watch that movie. Every once in a while, I'm like, is this not the best thing that's ever been made? Like, how is it this? It's close to a perfect movie. It's very close. Yeah. My only thing that would make it a perfect movie is if it wasn't British music. I hate Edgar Wright with music. The only time I think he nailed it is when it's Scott Pilgrim. Oh, gee, crazy. It's because Beck helped. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. He had to get help. But yeah, no, I'm I'm right there with you with all of that. I love it when it works like that. But then again, I'm sorry. I also have the David Gordon Green malik brain of like, I'm okay lingering, I'm okay futsing about, I'm okay living in something longer when I know we actually technically didn't have to.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'm more forgiving. And I I'm okay with a mess. I am okay with a mess. If it gets there, I'm just I hope I become less frustrated with the structure as it goes on because that's genuinely the problem. I like the things that are being revealed, but I am bored by the way they are telling them to me. So the delivery mechanism just is not engaging. So it's I'm just like, fuck man, I want to know what's going on in the world. It's cool, it's fucking cool. They have they've set up some fucking great mysteries. I'm I am compelled by the plot, but the way that it's being fed to me tastes like shit. And coming back to what you're saying about Friday Night Lights, the thing I think in my mind that it has going against it is that it's a 42-minute drama. And it's back in that time when we talked about it, I think during the season, yeah, was it was in that weird transition from broadcast television into prestige television. So if it was more condensed and they knew the entire story that they wanted to tell from the beginning, I think it would have been made way more efficient. Like these kind of the network television model works very well for 20-minute comedies, right? Because it's whatever. You're just gonna make 10 fucking 10 to 24 fucking episodes of these ridiculous characters in ridiculous scenarios, right? Yeah, and that that makes total sense. You may have a season arc or something like that, or they started out with something and and whatever, but like you're you're not necessarily telling a story with a comedy.
SPEAKER_00I think that's why that format works. The shorter seasons for Friday Night Lights is when it hits a uh a much better stride, yeah, and it becomes the best show of all time. Season three, four, and five feel so much better and well constructed compared to season one because season one it uh almost like twice as long. Okay, yeah, I don't remember, but it's one of the best shows of all time. He won an Emmy and beat out um Better Call Soul. I watched one zero Emmys.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I I You love Friday Night Last. There is a there is a better version of that of that show, just in terms of the format that they could have gone with. But again, it it was caught in the middle. It's uh it's not their fault. I don't blame anybody associated with that show.
SPEAKER_00No, those are all geniuses. I think Did you see the new episode of lanterns?
SPEAKER_01Uh the newest this week's I haven't. I can't fucking wait, though. Last I saw last week's, which gets into his backstory into uh sure. Yeah, so I saw that. But I I'm gonna watch it tonight.
SPEAKER_00Snoon episode was cool. Kyle Taylor does one thing where I was like, Yeah, man, you're I love it. You're badass. I fucking love the show. Like they gave him a badass moment, and I was like, Thank you. I love this show.
SPEAKER_01He's about it.
SPEAKER_00I'm I'm enjoying it. It's great. There's also okay, I'll say this because I need you to look out for this. There's they give Kyle the one thing of like, yeah, he's about it. He's here to you know what I mean. He's not just a drunk goofy prick guy. Oh, yeah, he knows what he's doing, but they also this is the episode, and I know he didn't write the whole show, but there's a thing in this episode where I was like, Yeah, Damon Lindelof, quit fucking about, man. What is wrong with you? Why do you gotta fuck about?
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, the thing that will turn you off in a season of his show. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Like, why do you have to fuck about? Gotcha, and that's the only way I can put it. I get it, it's funny, whatever, but like, yeah, you'll come across the thing and you're like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. I'm I'm curious to see where that comes. And yeah, I genuinely as we're talking about network television and 40-minute uh shows, I cannot fucking wait to to do Lost in the way that we do it because man, it's gonna be a fucking mess. But talk about emotionally compelling, man. I don't know. I'm yeah, it says you. No, exactly.
SPEAKER_00I'm just kidding. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01That's the whole point of this. Yeah, sorry, there's the I'm there. I'm sure there's a redneck character in there that's with a heart of gold.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Is there is there a is there a dumb hot guy that's actually very empathetic and loving and caring?
SPEAKER_01I don't know about that. I don't know that. But there's the the Bill Sr. stand-in. Yeah, you'll have a good time with Locke. Uh yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Never met him. He's not in season one. Is he not? Yeah, he is. No, he's not. Yeah, yeah. Shut your f- I think he is. I don't think so. I don't know. I can't remember. Who knows? Who knows anything about anything? Um we're never gonna watch Lost. How about that? Okay, that's fine. After this, we're watching Naruto. This became an anime podcast, if you guys weren't paying attention. Well, I mean, everyone who knows you know knows me. You pick the anime, you picked Evangelion, and you picked Steven Universe. But if we if we were in a lineup I picked the redneck show, you pick the it's okay to be different and maybe kind of sort of bisexual show. So hey, who's picking one over here?
SPEAKER_01We're keeping people guessing, that's all we're saying.
SPEAKER_00I picked Michael Bay, you picked uh fucking, I don't know, the Wachowskis. I don't know. That was one of your votes that I had to shoot down. Uh they don't have enough movies anyway. You wanted to watch them double, one with a straight perspective, and then every movie they do through a trans lens.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think Astra we should do The Matrix with Mike Sanchez because he's a huge like evangelist of The Matrix. I think it's his favorite. All three or four. He loved the fourth one too. So that'd be that'd be a fun series. I still didn't watch it. That'd be a fun miniseries that that we could do in between Lost because we are gonna split up Lost and then do a little mini-series. It's humongous and takes forever. Whenever we get to that, maybe when we're 40. I don't know. Jesus.
SPEAKER_00So Nick, what do you uh what do you think the the lady Titan is?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I literally have no idea.
SPEAKER_00It felt like because she covered the back of our neck, I was like, maybe it's someone from the town. Like this is someone that knows how they fight.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's why I'm saying, like, with the armored one and the colossal colossal titan, because they're like, oh, this this female one looks like the closet titan. Yeah, I think they're citizens or something, they gotta be people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That are appearing and disappearing. They have the same ability as Aaron. Somehow they're tied in with his dad. There's basically big shit that none of these fucking people know about. Maybe some of them do. I think about like the captain or something like that. I'm like, this guy knows more than he's like yeah, it's gotta be people. In town, I think. For all three of those.
SPEAKER_00That's what I think. Yeah, yeah. Because at first I was like, I mean, I don't know, it could be like weird savage land, outskirt, other country type people coming in. Yeah. But I'm like, ah, it feels like they know tactics of what you do. Yeah. So it's different.
SPEAKER_01Yep. All right. Randoms. Randoms. And I actually do have a question for you, but I'm gonna save it for next week. You sure? Yes. Okay. But I've I've found out what it was. I think it it'll just tie in a little bit better.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I'm very excited for the Nathan Fielder Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Oh, Jesus. Yes, a very settling trailer, Jesus. Three years he filmed. That lady's eyes are too close together. Dude, that is so you were freaking out over the discourse on a thing you love. I had to watch the internet in real time try without doing any research to figure out is Nathan Fielder a good person or not? And is he gonna humanize Elizabeth Holmes? And I'm freaking out in a vacuum of my own world, going, you guys don't know who this is. It literally, a guy that's made his career toying with what is and isn't reality, met a person that's going to jail for doing business fraud and lying, creating a false sense of herself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like two jokers meeting in the Batman universe. And he made a film about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That's brilliant.
SPEAKER_00Just watch the trailer. Like he cut the trailer for them to. I don't know if they're gonna fuck.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if they both know they're lying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Who's in control? Who's in watch that trailer?
SPEAKER_01And then you cut wide.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Who's in power?
SPEAKER_01Rocking the baby with her foot.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Staring into Nathan Fielder unblinking.
SPEAKER_00Who holds the power in that scene?
SPEAKER_01That's brilliant.
SPEAKER_00Watch it a million times. Every time I watch it, I'm like, there's something else happening.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're seeing that in theaters and we're doing a bonus episode. So excited. With Josh Jenkins. So excited. We'll do that. Um yeah. And I there's a new Godzilla minus zero trailer out. Didn't see it yet. Not gonna watch it. I'm just gonna watch the movie. I'm skipping the trailer. I'll do that too then, because I haven't seen it yet. I'll do the same thing. I don't need to know. I don't care. I'm just gonna see it. Already bought in. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Already there. I don't want I don't want to see it anymore. New M. Night Shyamalan trailer. I didn't watch it and I don't want to. I'm mad at him.
SPEAKER_01Nah. I I think I saw a Reddit thing where it's like, oh, someone tried to call it already. And I'm like, yeah, it's probably that. Yeah. But uh it's Jake Jill and all. I don't know. We'll have to see.
SPEAKER_00I do love Jake Jill and all.
SPEAKER_01I know. The new theme, which I didn't watch last time, but I watched this time. I'm like, this is crazy. What anime changes their opening halfway through. Good for them. Did you listen to the end song too? Uh for a little bit. It's I think it's kind of cool. But uh the imagery of the post-hardcore song. The raining blood and on the window and all that stuff. I was like, okay, that's fucking cool. Yeah. And I think the first time that I was ever creeped out by a Titan is that crawler guy. That's gross. Giant guy, just yeah, like going like a spider. I'm like, okay, that's a creepy titan. None of them have been creepy until that moment. I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Creepy moments, but that was, yeah, I agree. I really, really like the image of them standing in the trees.
SPEAKER_01Yes, very cool.
SPEAKER_00These are well-directed episodes. There's some good visuals. I also honestly thought a lot of the still frames were good. Like the still image of just the horses while they're talking. I was like, I visually better choice. I'm enjoying it. I like looking at it. It's a it's a well-constructed uh piece. Yes. And a lot of them saying bitch. I know. They're dropping bitch a lot in the streets. I know. Just talking about the lady.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, they're they're uh different breed, these scouts. William was was like, he finally sees himself in the scouts.
SPEAKER_00I'm not big on bitch.
SPEAKER_01I am, it's funny.
SPEAKER_00It's good.
SPEAKER_01It's a good one. There's at one point I think Armin says something like, Why are they doing this? I'm just like, Armin, stop asking that question. Yeah. We know uh we know that that's the question. We don't have to stop talking for fucking real, man.
SPEAKER_00Every once in a while, I'm like, dude, just dude. I don't know. Maybe you should just die so we can feel sad that they lost their loser friend.
SPEAKER_01Fucking obvious shit all the time.
SPEAKER_00I didn't like that everyone got horny over the hot blonde girl because she looks kind of young, and I didn't like that. I didn't enjoy that at all. Just very anime-y. Yeah. Don't love it.
SPEAKER_01I like that the the female titan just fucking spinning that guy and just nuts. Yeah. And kicking the guy on the fucking horse. And you cut to the other two galloping, and you can still see that guy in the age.
SPEAKER_00He's just floating. I fucking love that. I did. I uh her her killing people was cool. Yeah. Like her jumping around and smushing and fighting and catching them while they're shooting at her and stuff. I did like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good choreography in terms of the fight. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the fighting. I really did take a lot less notes. I'm taking less and less notes because I'm just like, I don't, I'm not engaged in this. Yeah. And not much is happening per episode. Uh whatever.
SPEAKER_00I get that. Yeah. Before we get out of here, I want to talk about something real quick. Sure. Andy Williams died. R.I.P. The guitarist for the cool band Everytime I Die. Yes. Rhythm guitarist. There's two guitarists. He's a rhythm. He was a big guy. And it really bummed me out. Made me very, very, very, very, very sad. I like the band, of course. Me and Nick talk about Every Time I Die a lot. We talk about loving Keith Buckley's lyrics. But Andy is a big brute of a man physically. And he's such that stereotype of like a lovable, nice, kind of silly guy. Yep. And I've always remembered his contributions to the band. Sometimes I've seen some interviews where he talks about riffs he likes. He's bringing in like thin Lizzie references. He it's this thing of the band could go just straight one way, and they always have this southern twang to their riffs. I think he brought that. It's always a good mix when someone in the creative process is a little left of center. And I think he was that for some of their ideas.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think he was the special sauce. Yeah. Because he was not in Better Lovers, which was basically Every Time I Die minus Keith and minus him. Yeah. And the riffs weren't as good.
SPEAKER_00They're they're they sound like discarded every time I die riffs. Like they sound like if I try to write every time I die, riffs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're miss, it's missing the magic. And I think Gandhi was the special sauce.
SPEAKER_00And I think Andy's the one that plays uh he might have played banjo on one of those songs where the intro is a banjo. Like he has a different, if these are like buffalo metal guys, he's a little bit of like a country southern rock type guy, and that blend made it a little unique. The other thing about him is super, super nice. When this band broke up, he's introduced the band of like, hey, I love these guys. I want you to love these guys.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're my brothers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and also the other thing is he was a wrestler.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Professional wrestling, amateur wrestling, whatever term you use at that level, that was a passion of his. He loved doing this. That's something that um I feel a way about. Creative person had a run of creativity, had a certain fan base, and when his band breaks up, instead of just doing whatever literally everybody else is, like, well, I'm just gonna do another band. That sounds like the thing. He was like, I'm gonna go my own way. I have this other passion that I was doing. I'm just fully committed now. And he's wrestling, and people liked him and they loved him. And I think that idea of doing a passion. He died doing something he loved, but he shouldn't have died. It was an accident, he got hurt, and he didn't make it. That's very sad to me. Yep. Because I think he was a guy that would have loved to live a long life. Oh, yeah. Because he filled it with love. Yep. And that's the thing that makes me sad is like, damn, you figured out how to do life in this world, which is with love and positivity, and then you're you're gone now. Like he stopped. And I think that's the key to longevity, is I he sounded like he loved the living more days. Yeah. And it makes me sad that he can't now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. That's really sad. Yeah, it's uh it's a huge tragedy just in terms of he did it right, where he followed his passions, and he didn't immediately start a new band. He was like, I'm just gonna fucking chill, and then whatever comes to me, whatever comes to me. So he he did you know, he did release some new music. They his band made an EP, and I guess they had just finished tracking some stuff. Like literally the day that he passed away, yeah. He did an update on on his his newer band that they were tracking some stuff. And yeah, that's just to me, it's just like it's that thing of you got a big ray of positivity, and then that's the fucking light that gets extinguished. Yeah, exactly. You know what I mean? Um, yeah, and just a fucking freak accident doing what he loved, which I mean, we can't really ask for more than that in life, but yeah, he was the special sauce of the band. And look, selfishly, it's one of those things where it's like there was always you never know with bands. You're like, maybe the maybe the two of them are brothers. Exactly. Oasis just got back together. That's what I'm saying. And that was the big rift, yeah, or rift. Sorry, pun, not intended, but uh and every time I die, so it's like, oh, maybe they could have got back together, but yeah, now never, it'll never be the same.
SPEAKER_00No, I never want that to happen.
SPEAKER_01No, ever. Now, yeah, I mean he literally was the magic.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he used to go and he would jump in the pit. Yeah, he put his guitar down, he'd go in the pit. Yeah, he also apparently was like very easy to get a hold of and like would talk to fans all the time, like through DMs and stuff. Like he was just he was a good down-to-earth guy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're saying, I mean, all the tributes and stuff to him, they're all over the internet, and other musicians are just like, dude, here's a random fucking DM from where he heard a song of mine and was like, dude, this song is fucking amazing. Like, he's just that kind of nice person to reach out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and um comedian Sam Talent had a story about him, and they were DMing and they were talking about a lot of stuff, and I was like, This is so cool, man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's just a a real fucking loss um of a force of positivity in the world. Yeah, it's it fucking sucks, yeah. Yeah, but yeah, all right, R I fucking pee, you know. Big time, love him, miss him. So we'll listen to every time I die and and his memory, and yeah, don't let your dreamers grow up to be dead men.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because it's hard out here, man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, man. Life is is fucking pain. And this moment will not pass. Nope. Uh but uh yeah, it's it sucks. It sucks. Uh but yeah. Give them a listen, thoughts and prayers. Yeah. Big time. Yeah, fucking awful. Love them. Yeah, absolutely. Next week we'll be back with the next three episodes of Attack on Titan and finish up this little mini arc, which is the 50 blah blah seventh expedition or whatever, uh, with episodes 20, 21, and 22, which I think after that, I think we only have like two podcast episodes of season one left. We're getting close to wrapping season one. I'm super curious to see where it goes and where the season finale is gonna be very excited. Yeah, yeah. So uh we'll be back next week, everybody.
SPEAKER_00I love you.
SPEAKER_01I love you too.
