Hello and welcome to season 11 of I'm Your Buddy with Nick and William, a podcast where two best friends are watching and discussing the anime series Attack on Titan. I'm Nick, who has never seen Attack on Titan.
SPEAKER_02And I'm William, who's also never seen Attack on Titan. And today we're going to talk about season one, Episode 11, Idol, slash Attack on Trost, part seven, episode 12, Flaw slash Attack on Trost Part Eight. And episode 13, Primal Desire, Slash Attack on Trost, Part Nine.
SPEAKER_00So all slashes, no colons this time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're we're simplifying the uh the method to the madness. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00All right, yeah. We just w you literally just got here. Yeah. We didn't even talk besides you mentioning something when we walked in. I literally don't remember.
SPEAKER_02I didn't mention anything. I just started talking to Leo. Leo entered invited me to go watch a weather show with him. Yes. Uh Al Roker immediately sat down.
SPEAKER_00Weather hunters. Uh which for a kid's show is actually pretty decent. It's mostly about literally about the weather. He has three children who are trying to learn about the weather and a little puffy white dog called Cumulus. Um and yeah, you know, the usual attractive wife who's more capable than he is in many ways. Uh, and they have like a kind of a Winnebago that transforms into a flying car weather station. That's pretty cool. Yeah, it's yeah, it's actually pretty decent for a kid's show on PBS, yeah.
SPEAKER_02You want to review that instead? Let's do a season of Weather Hunters or whatever it's called.
SPEAKER_00Don't even fucking tend me this week, but we'll we'll get into that.
SPEAKER_02But uh kids watching weather shows. I know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Is it like I know where you're gonna go, but you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Is it like are we trying to make kids?
SPEAKER_00Well, it's PBS, so it's educational. So it's not a kid's show for the sake of a kid's show. Most of their stuff has to have an educational bend to it.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, it's good. He what mostly watches PBS. We don't have cable or anything like that. Yeah, exactly. And we I mean, his streaming services are the new cable, so he has some, I guess, but he'll get there. Yeah, he'll eventually. He's still too young for most of PBS. Is always good to start with for kids because it's all education based generally. Not chaotic brain rot type stuff. Yeah, exactly. The shit that ruined our generation's brains. Though it did lean lead all that led to pioneering the meme, you know what I mean? So it's not all bad. Yeah, art came out of it for sure. Yeah, for sure. Tom Green show, you ever heard of it?
SPEAKER_02That was pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, those Gen Xers, yeah, they know they some of them know what knew what they were doing. Uh how are you? How are you today, William? I haven't seen you since last time we recorded. Oh, Monday or something. It's been over a week, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So how's it going? Because I'm in a bad mood. Oh, hell yeah. No, we can we can we can sync up our myriads.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, our man periods are uh they don't always sync up. Today it probably sunk up.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes they do, and it's always fun, at least to bitch about things, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, yeah, I'm totally back on my bullshit. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's just annoying. Oh no. Just because of work or is the personal stuff? Uh I mean uh I don't know. It's hard to say it's a lot of people. It stocks yourself. How works works hard, but it's not something that affects me emotionally as much that comes and goes and it has to be like a specific, like something had to happen that like hits my ego, hits my like sets me back on like personal goals I'm working towards, or something like that, or confidence and things. But no, it's it's just every once in a while I hit a point where I'm like, you gotta fake it till you make it. Yeah, you know what I mean? So I'm just in that phase, like just your typical nothing feels good, but nothing's like there's just no positives, it's just it's a flat line or a dip. And so you just you know, what do you do about it? How many people actually wanna like take time out of their decent data go through it with you? So it's like just keep on moving. What are you gonna do? Just gotta keep on going.
SPEAKER_00As the hats and bumper stickers say, gotta keep on trucking.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you can't, you know, call the game due to weather. No.
SPEAKER_00That's what you do. You just go through it. Yes. Yes, you do. And you yeah, you know, it seems like you would have a a slight bump with watching lanterns and with watching your your your uh television surrogate father, uh Coach Taylor.
SPEAKER_02Kyle Chandler is so good, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I haven't watched episode two yet. I didn't watch one.
SPEAKER_02That pile, I'm just like he's so fucking good, yeah. He's so good. I stand well, yeah. I wish I could like uh one shot another universe. I think he would nail in old Scott Summers post-Phoenix saga, everyone's dead. Yeah, just a bummer. I miss everybody and alcoholic Scott. Yeah, like I'm trying to do the the team and they're extra young. Yeah, like he would nail a remorseful Scott Summers.
SPEAKER_00Old man Summers. I'm stealing that pitch, actually. Yeah, isn't it great? Filing that away. I never had a Scott story, and now I'm stealing that.
SPEAKER_02That's such a good Scott. I would yeah, no, I'm there for it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that'd be sick. Kot Chandler rules, he's the man. He's so good. And I really enjoyed that episode. I thought it was good. A lot of good humor.
SPEAKER_02I want to keep watching it. And uh, I forgot her name, the lady that plays the cop, the wife from No Country for Old Man.
SPEAKER_00Yes, exactly. She's good. The guy who plays Jon Stewart, Aaron Aaron He's alright. Yeah, I I thought he did fine. Actually, like four house straight shooter of a character that is, because he doesn't have as much to work with, I don't think, as Kyle Kyle Chandler does, at least definitely so far. Yeah, he's playing the straight guy. Yeah, yeah. So I bet he's doing well. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm curious to see how the second episode is. Hopefully, might watch it tonight, hopefully. Yeah, I should. I forgot it's a Sunday show. Yeah, took House of the Dragons spot. Okay. I wasn't watching that me neither. I just read that online and it stuck in my brain.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, no, that is a that is a fun show. I'll keep sticking with it. Even though it's Damon Lindelof, which means there's always gonna be a mixed bag. Something isn't gonna connect with me. Where I'm like, why'd you what was your thought there? Like there's always something when he does, it feels like he always goes a little too far. Yeah, like it's a grounded story, and then out of nowhere, there's gonna be an episode where it's like, well, Jon Stewart's gonna talk to God, and then we're never gonna go back to that again.
SPEAKER_00Like, there's always something like So they did something like that with the leftovers? Because you did you watch all of the leftovers?
SPEAKER_02But yeah, they definitely have like Well, it's like a there's There's like time travel universe shit, right? Like it gets your premise was enough, and then you added another whole other couple things.
SPEAKER_00Don't need a hat on a hat.
SPEAKER_02And he always does that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's uh that's kind of interesting.
SPEAKER_02He's a he's a weird dude. I do like him. He's cool, he's an interesting brain, so I do enjoy that he keeps writing shows and game work.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I like him and I feel bad for him having to defend everything. Everyone's always fucking mad about shit. Like that the fucking lanterns, whatever, end of the first episode. Not gonna spoil it for people who haven't seen it, but it's like all these motherfuckers who complain about comic book adaptations not being true to the source material. So it's like, shut the fuck up. Yep. Have you ever read a comic book? I yeah, they're all so fucking different, and the answer is no, they haven't, right? That's what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_02I I stand by my my thesis is you guys fucked up and you gatekeeped the wrong people. Exactly. You were gatekeeping girls instead of stupid dumb jocks, yeah, yeah. So you let dumb people in your comic book world.
SPEAKER_00It's just it doesn't make any fucking sense. They're all idiots, they don't understand how comic book works or comic books work, and they don't understand how adaptations work. It's like, dude, if this isn't your Green Lantern, guess what? In five years, there's gonna be another one. Or guess what? Read any of hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of episodes or of issues of Green Lantern comics, or watch if you're such a fucking animated shows, exactly. They're supposed to nail it. Watch those things. Yeah, so it's like have that be your thing. Who gives a shit? Stop fucking getting mad at writers about trying to make something interesting, just get fucked. It's it's so goddamn annoying to me. Um, and the amount of I mean, there's a couple of comic book people in my life who actually read comic books who are complaining about it. I'm just like, dude, fucking chill. You're too old to know this.
SPEAKER_02My only my only thing is like I'm okay with you complaining if you have merits to stand on, and if your main merit is it's not another thing, I just don't really have time for those type of arguments.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like me and you never fully discussed how we felt about The Last of Us season two. But there you may you made a really good point when we were brushing up against it. I was like, if you took it away from the game because you love the game so much and you're like, it's just a show, you're like, yeah, it's a mediocre season of a show.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like what the show did in its context of the beginning to the end of season two, all of that was kind of so so. And I was like, Yeah, that's see that's valid. Yeah, it's not just saying it's not as good as the game. It's like, no, as a show that I'm watching an hour, it's not that good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. And that was why the first season excelled, is because they actually deviated from the game and they actually explored interesting stuff. It's good stuff that was additive, you know.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, shout out Melanie Lindsky.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So uh yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, no, I'm I'm in a lame mood, not angry, just in it's just it's the thing. I'm always I'm always gonna be the thing. Fighting you know what I mean? Yeah, fighting that like yeah Nega William. Yeah, I s I said it already as like this is type one diabetes, this is a forever thing, so yeah, yeah. Too bad there's not medication for diabetes that could help me balance things out. Who knows? Who knows?
SPEAKER_00I think that's between you and not your therapist because I'm sure she's brought it up and you're just like I'll figure it out. Yeah, it is crazy.
SPEAKER_02I'm still at this point in life raw dogging life, like almost like a teetotaling, like straight edge level of raw dogging. Like it's a crazy amount.
SPEAKER_00The the human brain's ability to deceive itself is astounding. It's yeah because yeah, even though even whatever, it's not there's never a straight path towards finding medication instantly, unless you're lucky. All right. Yeah, usually like it took me two different types. So you know, you get on one for a little bit, see how it affects you, and if it works, if it does, if it does work, then they can find the right level or whatever. But if it doesn't work, then they can switch to to another one, and you know, so it's it sounds like a daunting process, but it is fuck all that, but it is out of here. And that's the whole thing, too, is interested is with your brain, it's just like, no, I I'll be able to figure it out. No, you won't. Like you said, it's type one diabetes, you know. Um there's definitely some tools, but that's one of the tools that it might be worth exploring.
SPEAKER_02But it's like in and I know I'm in the wrong headspace and it's it's all blah blah blah. But like the figuring it out is I might be right. That this is shit and suffering and it is what it is, and I'm alone in it, and life is difficult for sure. So then it's like, okay, I guess I'm figuring it out.
SPEAKER_00But I don't know if you're alone in it. That's I don't think that's true.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's where it gets complicated is like to what extent?
SPEAKER_00Sure, but it's the glass half empty, half full.
SPEAKER_02Sure, and that's what I'm saying, is like to what extent am I alone? It's not like I'm a pure recluse, but it's also like when it comes to suffering and when it comes to growth, a lot of that is solitary. A lot of it is, in all honesty. Oh, yeah, it is working on yourself, and then if you get to the like crisis of it, that's where it's now uh no, there are people that care and don't want you to like get too uh sick or hurt or anything like that. At a certain point with a very negative mindset, what it feels like is the sufferings alone. People come when it begins to be the reminder of the burden. Like, I gotta carry you guys when it becomes too much. Now it's the reminder of like just remember you can't do anything because it's gonna hurt, and then the list of all the people it'll hurt. That's when you're not alone. But the suffering and the growth and the development that is on you. People can't make you happy, people can't change your outlook, people can't like rewire your brain. Like, there's so much of that of like, no, it's internal work you gotta do. I don't like I think that's kind of true to an extent.
SPEAKER_00And there are tools to help you do that, and maybe medication's one of them. Or just go to electric shock therapy. Just that's worked pretty well in the 50s and 60s, right? You should try that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so. I mean, everyone says uh the homeless population got bad when they like closed the facilities down.
SPEAKER_00God bless Ronald Reagan, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or something like that. I don't know if it wasn't. Yeah, it was he was a big part of it. Yeah, yeah. But like, yeah, I'm I I don't know, man. It's uh but that's the thing, is like uh yeah. It's I mean, I think I'm figuring it out. I don't think I'm lying to myself, it's just now a matter of uh Jesus. It's not it's not one absolute. Every time you say one thing, you're alone. I can name five other instances of not being alone. Yeah, yeah. So it's like like you said, the glass is always half empty and half full. What are you fixated on? But saying either of them is not a false statement. And technically it is. It's remembering it's all full. There's multiple full of air, but you know, yeah, full full of what? Full of shit, full of suffering. That is full. True. I wasn't specific monkey paw, which uh brings something up. I watched the movie Obsession.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02You don't watch the new movies, so I'm okay to spoil movies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, of course. I'm not gonna watch it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh I I mean, it was uh one, good, liked it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, creepy because I liked scary but creepy. Guys behind it, I follow them on YouTube, Corey.
SPEAKER_02I don't, I don't know what they make.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't aware of skits and stuff like that. When one of them they both act. I think one of the actors is in it.
SPEAKER_02I can't remember, but um it was it it was the experience of a simp white boy loser's first experience dating uh a Mexican Latina. Like that's what that was. It's like, yeah, she kills another girl because they were talking in the car. She's like freaking out because she he has to like get up out of bed. She's like, Why do you hate me? Like she's just super controlling that's all right. Turns on a dime. But um, besides my stupid joke of it, is like it it is cool. He's uh they play well with the who's the villain, who's the bad guy, yeah, and obsession, the title, what does it refer to? Yeah, it it plays with that very well. Nice. What a pussy of a main character. What a punk loser pussy of a main character. That's fun to watch sometimes. It is. It it it's fun because you're not rooting for him. So when he's doing that type of stuff, you are engaged. Like it is a um, I get how watching this with a an active crowd would be fun because there are like yell at the screen, like, what are you doing? Yeah, yeah. There's fun stuff like that. Nice for sure. And then to totally spoil it, um, spoilers for obsession, at the very end, everything just gets too real, too brutal, and he's gonna kill himself because he just fucked the whole world up. Yeah, and he has a gun, and then he's like, I can't. He's too much of a baby to shoot himself, so then he goes white divorce mom out and he takes a bunch of pills, just swallows a bunch of oxies. Wow, and then he even at that point is like, no, I take it back, and he's trying to make himself throw up. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00Like he's such a just a coward, yeah. What a coward. I mean, you shouldn't do those things, but I think that's part of the story.
SPEAKER_02For for this type of circumstance, like he ruined a pile of bodies because of this horrible decision he made to bring a demon to take over a girl's life. Sure, sure. Just because he wanted to. I mean, this is one of those, like, he wasn't doing it because he was sad and depressed and alone and suffering like me. He was like, I think I ruined like 40 people's lives. Yeah, yeah. No, and there's no way out of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm dealing with a demon.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So he was like, I gotta get out of here.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, no, it was fun. It was uh it was a fun little uh flick to watch. I did enjoy it. I'm not scared in scary movies, but I do in I I do like watching what they do because it feels like the genre right now where two things can happen. One, low budget, two, creative camera work.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the cinem for how cheap it was, the cinematography looks amazing.
SPEAKER_02And that's the fun thing about uh horror movies right now is that's where people are going to be creative. I think in the early 2000s, we got a lot of character dramas, and we got a lot of uh writers coming up. Noah Baumbach was hitting it hard, Paul Thomas Anderson, Charlie Kaufman was getting in his bag, Alexander Payne had a run. Like we we had that time of like character dramas in sad dude movies. You're seeing the fun director creativity in the horror genre. Like I said, like when I saw backrooms, there's stuff in there that was like, this is really cool looking. Like they did a really good job visually with a lot of the stuff they're doing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it comes from growing up on YouTube and on Instagram and that kind of stuff. These younger guys who are in their uh early teens or not in their early 20s, they're just grew up fucking editing everything. So it's like these this younger generation is have been editors for 10 years already by the time that they're directing these movies. So yeah, the creativity coming in terms of that space in terms of sh shot choice, yeah, and that kind of shit, I think is gonna be very different than you know the generation before that, yeah, which is our generation.
SPEAKER_02They're playing with composition, they play with lights, they're moving their camera in weird ways. Like even watching some of these trailers for like the evil dead, yeah like they lock it to the boat or they lock it to people and it's rotating, like they are the you can tell because the budget's low, they're having fun with the creativity. That's cool. And uh, I mean, you know, we we just talked about this with Nolan, where it's like, come on, man, have some fun, like you're just showing me a thing and going, got it next.
SPEAKER_00It's so odd, it's so weird.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's very sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but like yeah, seeing these younger uh people play with horror with low budget and creativity, it's it's really cool. I do like it. I uh champion it, it's not my favorite genre, it doesn't work for me a lot of the times, yeah. But it's a lot of fun to watch, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's always on the forefront of creativity a lot of times, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's a good way to put it, and that's a good reminder. Yeah, you know, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws to an extent of being horror, like a lot of those directors had to cut their teeth with creativity, alien.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, and you have to make John Carpenter. Shout out John Carpenter. Oh yeah, you have to make active choices, and you're I think it's more apparent of how you're trying to manipulate the audience when it comes to horror stories. Oh yeah. So where I mean, uh probably on all in general, I think all stories are equal in terms of how you're trying to affect the audience, but with horror, it's like, no, I'm trying to scare someone. So that's a very specific emotion you're trying to elicit, and it has a very rabid fan base. So you just there's this built-in understanding of like, I have to deliberately try to do this one thing. How can I do that with sound? How can I do it with the frame? How can I do it with movement, etc., etc.? And is this going to surprise people? Because the hardcore horror fans see everything, so you can't just pull something from another, you know, fucking horror movie. Because they'll be like, oh, that's that. You know, you gotta try to be inventive, try to do a scare in a different way. So yeah, it's a super interesting uh genre and kind of breeding ground for keeping film alive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's very, very cool. Yeah, and it's not my thing either, but yeah, I respect the hell out of it. And so many people start in low budget horror because that's also a a genre that you can get funded at a really low level. It's because they almost always make money. And obsession's the I think the most profitable film of the 2000s so far.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, did it beat Passionate Christ yet?
SPEAKER_00Um, popular indie self-funded. I think it beat it in terms of the ratio, in terms of so I think now of the 21st century it's the most profitable movie or whatever, most successful movie budget compared to Box Office, which is nuts, you know. Like it came from fucking Instagram, you know. I mean it's a good idea.
SPEAKER_02And it I I think the main thing now that I watched it, what probably connects with the audience not just because it's horror, it's relationship horror.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Young kids, relationship, bad decisions.
SPEAKER_00Wishing someone would like you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. It's playing with something that I think a lot of younger kids are like, oh, I gotta see that. Yeah, absolutely. And it speaks to something. That's such a fascinating idea. Yeah. That that's that's how this movie's made it. Because it's not the craziest movie. It's not the scariest movie of all time. It's not like it has a twist, like hereditary blew everybody away because they're just like, oh my god, I've never seen I don't know. I guess everyone uh no one's seen Tony Collette yell. That's what was groundbreaking about that movie. I'm not all the way sure. I think that's what it was, is they've never seen uh I don't know, crazy. I watched that movie, I was like, What you guys never had a mom not love you? Is that is that the crazy thing?
SPEAKER_00Like I don't get that movie. Not for me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I will I that's yeah. I watched, I was like, okay, yeah. She doesn't love her son. And she watched her husband burn and she's like, I don't know, I gotta go to bed. I was like, Yep, I I get it. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00But then there's ghosts at the end for some reason. Yeah, fuck the end of that movie.
SPEAKER_02It's got like five uh another one of those to me, it had like five things. I can't stand possession, ghost, demon.
SPEAKER_00No rules whatsoever, just oh, this is creepy, I'm gonna throw it in here. It's like a little too much going on for me. Cannot abide it.
SPEAKER_02Uh not for me. And uh the no, it's about grief. It's like sure.
SPEAKER_00Yep. That's one of the things that he tried to put it in there for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that is one of them. The demon isn't a metaphor for anything. But the mom is grieving her daughter accidentally dying, yeah. And how she doesn't love her son. So I don't know. Wasn't groundbreaking to me. Been there, done that. So yeah, it's it was like watching Ladybird, and I was like, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I forgot that you don't like Lady Bird that much.
SPEAKER_02My beef with friggin' Ladybird. I like so much of that movie. Drop her. Your mom sucks. She's mean. Uh go about your life. You move to college and you're sad and scared. You called your mom, the person who's been mean to you this whole goddamn time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Why is she off the hook? Not fair, not cool, don't like it, feel weird about it, but I think it just it it shows how and it's not a gender thing, it's uh when you're connected with a parent, you you do let them off the hook.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because you get that there's a deeper love. If there is a deeper love, so the they're they're allowed to talk to you poorly, and then you just go, yeah, but okay, I still love you. I don't know. I don't have that, I don't have that type of relationship. Uh so that whole like, yeah, you got a shitty mom, you love them anyways. I'm like, I don't know, man. I don't know how that works for other people. Yeah. I don't know. I get it, not no one has great parents. Like, nobody has like the parents ever. No one's perfect. So everyone's got some level of the dad or the mom or this or that, and what do you forgive and what do you don't? I get it. I totally get it. But when I watch movies like Lady Bird, it does kind of trigger me of like, why'd you let them off the hook?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Why aren't you doing this by yourself?
SPEAKER_00And it could have just and that and I think I take it in the movie. I only saw it the once in theaters, but I I in my head it kind of was like your favorite director. The director of masterpieces, yeah, masterpieces such as Barbie, it's true. And little women. Uh Little Women's, yeah, very good. Yeah. And yeah, I liked Ladybird too. Um three for three is not bad. Yeah, she's she knows what she's doing. Yeah. I hope she can make me like Narnia. That'd be cool.
SPEAKER_02Who the fuck saw that left swing, but I mean she grew up going to Catholic school. That's the part that I'm excited about. Yeah. The three for three, and then you were raised Catholic. I'm like, okay, now you gotta do your del Toro mode and you gotta kind of struggle with some stuff through fantasy.
SPEAKER_00That'd be cool. But Netflix, I don't trust them with big budgets. But I saw the end of Lady Bird, it's like that's the first step. And it could just be in the moment, that's who she refers to. She goes back to her mom, and after they had their issues in the film, that's like maybe this could be a first step for us of kind of having a real relationship or something like that. And like that's and that's what the film ends on, kind of.
SPEAKER_02It's more of it's open-ended for short, but who made that first step? Yeah, she called their mom. I know that's where I'm just like it could because like taking it. It depends on what kind of support system she has to take it off the mom, make it a shitty boyfriend or an ex that you dump because they were toxic. Yeah, yeah. One, we applaud the you need to leave them, and then two, we go, don't spin the block, you gotta stay away.
SPEAKER_00But also you can't choose who your parents are. That's the fucked up thing, right?
SPEAKER_02You can't choose them, but do you gotta carry them around all day all goddamn day? No, no. I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, whatever. It's tough, it's complicated. What are you cranky about? I'm I'm glad you're I mean, whatever. I'm I'm glad you're talking and with those things with your mom, because it's tough. I'm always in that. Yeah, we both have issues there, and yeah, it's tough to recognize a person's limitations and then consistently butt up against them. Yeah, I talk about it in therapy all the time. It just it sucks. It's one of those things where you're like, yeah, it fucking sucks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that's the like there's a limit to my love. Like there's always a barrier of what comes my way. And I have to meet and accept everybody's barrier, but for some reason, some or not some reason, somehow never let it affect my confidence.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's the challenge is which isn't it it's because my therapist always talks about it's it's it's about adult you trying to take care of child you who didn't get the care you needed. That's kind of the the context she always puts in in the way she kind of puts it in of you as an adult have these issues and have these feelings that are stem from this protective armor or this lack of thing that you didn't have from sources that you maybe should have got them from. So now as an adult, you can try to give yourself those things in terms of you like most of the time you like who you are, you like your capabilities, you like and I always kind of think of the context of like because saying that you love yourself and you're confident in yourself and all stuff, that's if it's like what you should get the get the fuck out of here. But at the same time, I often think like, would I want to be someone else? And would I want to have a different person's taste in music? Would I want to have a different person's uh taste, or not taste, but uh uh like their interests, yeah, their friends, their desires and stuff like that. And absolutely not. I like being me. That makes me realize I do like being me. I like the stuff I'm into, I love my family and friends, that kind of stuff, even though we're talking about struggling with family, but you know what I mean? Like the my made family, and I do like the things in my life and that I've chosen to get into and my hobbies and all those things. You know, I've I'm very happy to be myself in terms of uh in in that way. So that's the way that I try to adjust. But recognizing that and admitting that that's me enjoying being myself and liking myself and connecting that to like me being able to love myself because of that and recognize like it still feels too desperate. It still feels like two magnets opposite or not opposite, it's the same side of a magnet, you know. So it's still kind of repellent, but that's at least I'm I have that step of or I can acknowledge that step of oh, I do like who I am, but I'm still working on, therefore, if you like who you are, you can love yourself. I'm still working on that part, but you know, I hear you I try to put it in that context, and I know that there's a little fucked up kid in me, and a lot of those negative feelings are that because I can uh tie him back to childhood and shame and all this. Almost every time, yeah. Exactly. I just feel that like that little kid all the fucking time, and it's hard for me and as an adult to be able to step back and not have those feelings overwhelm me and be like, Oh, it's okay. I'm I'm comfortable in my own skin and I can love myself. Yeah, that's fucking hard. That's really, really, really hard. But I'm good, you're working it. You are doing the work, you are doing the work.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, talking to I mean, no, I just think it I am doing the work. I think I'm just uh I don't know enough about philosophy, but I think I'm I'm coming to a I'm not the first person to come to it, but there is the idea of if I come to an absolute, the absolutes are just like I don't I might not like myself, and if it comes to the there's a little kid in you you gotta take care of, it I'm I can't be the first person to go, I don't think I can. I don't think I take care of little me. I think I need someone else to help take care of little me, and if that's not an option, then it's like you know what I mean? It's just like okay, well then it it's just big me and little me's just we stay hurt. I guess like it it that has to be an option on the table. So we just let's go, all right. I don't know. It it's it's it's tricky because it's the um I I get frustrated when people talk about me and you've talked about it, is that idea of if you want to be an artist, you gotta do it, and if you didn't do it, you didn't want it enough. That's that concept of if you want to change and grow, you gotta put the work in, and then at a certain point people go, Well, I guess you didn't want it enough. There is a bit of me, and I think it's why I always make the joke about Manchester by the Sea, is like it's one of the first movies I've ever heard of him just admitting, he goes, I can't beat it right now. I can't say I'll never beat it, but there is an idea of like where you are. It's like I've done the work to admit I can't beat it. It is bigger than me. There is a thing in the room that's a bigger obstacle than what I'm equipped for.
SPEAKER_00Sure.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's why you reached out, that's why you got and that's and that's the thing is like it it's you can I can hit a point where I'm like, it literally I do need more hands on this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And if that's the limitation of life, then it's like, okay, well then this is just in the fucking room. This is the boulder, I can't turn into a titan to pick it up. So it's like either either a fucking Titan picks this up or I just live with the boulder staying where it is because I can't pick it up. I can't bite my thumb and turn into a titan as of today. And I have to keep that every time I talk to say who knows things could get worse tomorrow, but that means they can get better. Sure. So I also have to keep that understanding of the universe and its chaos.
SPEAKER_00And maybe uh, you know, a medication could turn you into a titan, you never know. That is another tool. Maybe. But that's for future William to explore, uh, potentially.
SPEAKER_02Why are you cranky? Uh pink shirt having short, short wearing son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_00Is it pink today? No, this is uh orange.
SPEAKER_02Is it? Yeah, it looks pink to me. Uh that's probably just the yeah, in the light. Yeah. I like your glasses, by the way.
SPEAKER_00They're green. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02I like them a lot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, new ones finally after a couple years. Yeah, they look nice. Turned out well. Yeah, I'm not I'm trying to wear more green.
SPEAKER_02Yeah?
SPEAKER_00Why? Yeah. I don't know. People like it on me from what I've heard. And I've never liked wearing green because I always thought it would clash with my gingerness uh pale skin, red beard thing. But I don't know, people like it. I do have blue green eyes, so I don't know. I'm going for it. Looks good. Because I usually just I don't like green in my hair, I like green in nature. I don't like green like walls and stuff like that necessarily. But I don't know, I might be changing. And I think uh well, maybe this kind of ties into some of my grumpiness, maybe, but I disagree with that version of me that believes or believed that if you wanted to be an artist that you would just do it, because that's a negative part of myself saying that and wanting to beat myself up for not being extra critical. Yeah, I'm it's just being too fucking critical. I I I don't I don't I don't like that absolutist fucking thinking and it's naive and it's for people who don't have a lot of shit going on in their life. I don't know that that I'm saying like all this absolute shit. Well, contra like surprise, surprise. I'm I'm contradicting myself with uh hyperbole. Uh but I yeah, I mean maybe I'm becoming more comfortable with who I am. I would sexually I would well that would be nice too. It's about time, but I mean there's always time for growth, you know. Uh no matter the age.
SPEAKER_02But growth gets harder with the age. I don't know. I I gotta focus. Well, but that's the thing. I gotta like focus in to get that growth sometimes. When I'm still wasting the growth in the mornings. Wait, I'm talking about what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_00Yes, exactly. Yeah. Yeah, if you're not waking up with growth.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's some some interesting thing.
SPEAKER_02No, but uh well, that's that's half the problem is like I wake up with growth in the morning and I'm like can't get it back. Don't waste it now. Like I'm not even gonna do anything.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but that growth is fueled by something else in the morning.
SPEAKER_02Uh just I need that later.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just just hold your pee. Yeah, I know. I found emotional growth yes has specific. It hasn't, I don't know if it's come easy because you you fucking do the work and life just fucking happens, but like I don't like that that idea of if I wanted it bad enough. Because I don't know. Because I and I remember I mean our conversation with Dan when he was on talk about Ivan Gallian.
SPEAKER_02It's one of my favorites we've done.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it it sticks in my mind so much because I genuinely the way that my brain is wired, and I I do, I hope one day I still think of movie ideas all the time. I still love screenwriting. It's my well, it's not my first love. I guess music was my first love, but well, I don't know. Uh you know, growing up and watching stuff, maybe narrative visual mediums were with TV and movies, but it wasn't my first creative love necessarily, but would love to make movies in the future. Yeah. But that's about all that stems from oh, I would love to write this script, I would love to go on set, I would love to do this. But in terms of the practicalities of my life, I genuinely do not like that kind of gig worker lifestyle. I cannot stand, I'm too fucking blue-collar, and I genuinely know that. I like the repetition of I know where I'm gonna go, I know what I need to do. My brain is so fucked, and it comes with being an anxious person. I need structure to be able to live my life in a comfortable manner because most of the time in my head it isn't fucking comfortable. So if I know what I'm doing Monday through Friday and on Saturday and Sunday, and I know where I'm gonna be, and I know what I can do in terms of interacting with my family, with my son and my wife, that relaxes some of my anxieties. So the idea of like, yes, I could try to blow my life up and work fucking 14-hour days on film sets or do whatever the fuck and try to grind and do that. I don't want to fucking do that. No thank you. I'm already poor, I'm already bad with money, so I don't want to have to work a fucking job and then worry about getting another job. And I just I don't have that kind of camaraderie of like, oh, I'm gonna shoot the shit with all the crew people, all this kind of stuff. I don't like people. I don't want to fucking do that. That gives me anxiety. I don't want to fucking talk to you because I think you're gonna fucking judge me and hate me. And I've already made up my mind that you do hate me, so I fucking hate you. Like, yeah, I have too much trauma and all this kind of shit to feel comfortable in those kind of situations, and that's on me, that's not on people who enjoy doing those kind of gigs. So I just I know right now it's not for me. I would love for it to be for me, but I know that I've become more comfortable over the past whatever fucking 10 years of just being like, it's okay. I can right now I'm very lucky. I'm I'm telling stories through comics, that kind of shit. And I'm focusing, you know, as much as I'm focusing on myself, I still have my life, and I don't have to worry about, oh fuck, is my does my wife hate me because I'm fucking working 12 hour days or something like that, or am I not being there for my son or whatever? Like, I don't have to worry about that shit. I'd rather not worry about that shit. If I was doing that thing, I would be worrying about that shit. Yeah, it's just I don't I don't like that all or nothing mentality that I used to have, and I feel like it was a little naive and it's cruel, and I knew it was just to be mean to myself. It's I'm buying too much into an idea of like that is what life is about. It's the life of an artist and all this blah blah blah blah blah blah. Where it's just like especially I think these days we forget about what life as an artist used to fucking be. Guess what you would have? You'd have a fucking patron, you would have a person, it would be the fucking church, or it'd be a fucking rich guy who would pay for you to do your fucking work. Yeah, and you would create masterpieces, sure, whatever, all these fucking classic people, but like the medicies, or you'd be fucking destitute, yeah. There wasn't a lot of fucking in between. So this idea of like, oh, it's all or nothing, that fuck that. I'd rather live a fucking comfortable life. I'd rather have money from my day job to be able to fucking pay an artist to start drawing a comic. Or you know what, I'd like to have somebody to go see a fucking movie with my friends. I'd like to be able to buy a fucking IMAX ticket, which isn't fucking cheap. I'd like to, you know, be able to have not be a fucking starving artist because fuck that. Yeah. I can care just as much about art as a fucking starving starving artist can. And while it may not be the only thing I do, at least I'm not being a burden on other fucking people. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And you need $80 for your Nintendo Switch games.
SPEAKER_00You're goddamn right. And I will happily play pay it every time, Daddy Nintendo. Uh I will be paying for Ocarina of Time, whatever fucking. Maybe I'll buy the there's supposedly uh Ocarina of Time console as well. So maybe I'll drop the $500 on that. No, I'm not going to, but the design isn't great. Um from the leak. We'll talk later.
SPEAKER_02I'm glad it's not good because I was scared. If it was amazing, you're like, I have to buy it. Yeah, I would buy your switch too. No, it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'd buy it.
SPEAKER_02I have one, but I have a friend that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00I could sell it to someone, yeah, exactly. But then I give them a good price. But but I I I don't, and it's you know, and it's being around people who are fucking working artists and Kiris family and all this kind of stuff. They're just doing it to not only do they have an appreciation for it, but they're not doing it for ego. They're doing it because they feel like they have to, and it's a creative endeavor, they are expressing themselves. Yeah. Where when you're young and when you're uh and you're and especially with me, fucking narcissism, god damn it. It's about me and it's about I don't I feel misunderstood because my I grew up and my parents didn't understand me and they still don't. So guess what is my struggle is trying to get people to fucking understand me. And guess what? Isn't that what I talked about the whole fucking last episode? Yeah, well, you know what I mean? Like that's one of my major things, and that's why I just Have struggled with this for so goddamn long is because I just want to be fucking understood, and then I don't think anyone can understand me ever. And that makes me not open up, but it also makes me hate myself. It's it's a fucking ridiculous thing. But I am coming around to being more accepting and being more gentle of just like just do your own fucking thing. If success finds you, that's amazing. Enjoy what you have. You know what I mean? If you have a good friend group, if you have a fucking roof under your head, or if you have a roof over your head and you have a little bit of spending money in your pocket, the world is so fucking bleak right now.
SPEAKER_02You got a cool kid and you got peacocks in your backyard. No, exactly. It's fucking I literally was thinking, I was like, Nick, you you peacocks in your backyard. No, it's yeah, it's cool.
SPEAKER_00It's whimsical, it's fucking odd. Yeah, it's cool. It's it's cool. So, like, and like I said about fucking with Graham giving him a hard time a couple years ago or whatever about my washer and dryer. Every weekend I do laundry. I'm like, this is amazing. Yeah, I have a washer and dryer in my fucking house. But I'm trying to soften on stuff because I feel bitter about the world, and that's why I'm in a bad mood. Because you saw Dr.
SPEAKER_02Dre's accepting AI in music, and that hurt you.
SPEAKER_00No. Oh no, that it's just old people shit, man. It's just I hope it's just people fucking around with it. I don't who fucking know. I don't know. I'm so sick of fucking hearing about AI, to be honest. Like, that's my life, I feel fucking inundated with AI, with social media, with all this shit. Is that really what you're cranky about, or did I add to that? No, it's no, I'm serious. Yeah, that's literally the yesterday. I was fucking scrolling on Instagram and my battery was getting low or something like that on my phone. I'm like, dude, this phone's only like a fucking year old. Why is my battery getting low? And I look at it, and like Instagram is using all this fucking battery life, and it shows me how long I've been on there, and my average is like a couple hours a day. I'm like, are you fucking serious? And I'm scrolling, I'm looking at cool stuff. I'm looking at dad shit, fucking 38-year-old white, straight male kissing. Well, other you know, that would that would actually probably make my algorithm a little more interesting. But no, it's like screen test. It's like dudes doing lawn work or woodworking, yeah, or there's architecture stuff that I'm interested in. Passion stuff. Yeah, you know what I mean? It's like hot little hobby stuff, and it just fucking keeps you there, keeps you there. And then all the news I'm reading about is all about fucking AI. It's all about Trump, it's all about the fucking world is ending, fascism. It's we're in a bad spot. Everyone's poor, the rich are getting richer. Yeah. I don't feel like I'm living my life. We talked about it last week. I got a giant fucking stack of books to fucking read. I got a bunch of television to watch. I have narrative stuff that I want to consume and fucking file away in the writer brain, which is why I'm enjoying listening to those that audiobook series because it's good because it's getting my narrative engine engaged every day. I'm like, what am I doing? Why am I fucking wasting my time on this bullshit and just reading about AI and having an algorithm feed me all this shit? And all it is is a fucking time waste. I only have one goddamn life and I'm fucking wasting it on this goddamn phone. It's just become so goddamn infuriating to me. And that doesn't mean I'm gonna become a fucking Luddite overnight or something, but it's getting to the point where I'm like, I gotta fucking do something. I gotta either limit myself, I have to make a conscious decision to put the fucking phone down and be fucking bored again, not know what to do. And then guess what? When I'm bored again, I'll be like, oh yeah, shit, I need to do this, I need to go organize this or whatever. I need to go fucking read this thing. I can I don't have to create time, like an hour, a blocks of time to get stuff done. I can do stuff little by little. Like, and it's okay because it's it's been challenging for my brain having a kid where I'm just like, oh shit, I gotta lock in on the kid, but then I don't, I zone out, I look at my fucking phone, and we're getting to the point to where it's like he is annoyed when you're on your phone. So I'm just like, yeah, okay, that's bad. We need to get, you know, fucking try to limit this a little bit because I don't want my son to feel like we're paying attention more to our phones than to him, even though you gotta decompress a little bit. But it's a it's an impossible fucking tightrope to walk. But yeah, I've just been I've it's like I feel like the straw on the camel's back is about to get broken, and I'm fucking sick of hearing about the same shit over and over and over and over again, and I just want to focus on shit that's real, you know what I mean? Not just staring into the fucking black mirror as the guy fucking made famous 10, 15 fucking years ago, however long that shit's been around, right? So that's been annoying me, and I'm fucking sick of it, and I want to do something about it, and it's even making me like, God, I just want to fucking play guitar or something like that. So you know it's bad. Yeah. When I've been like, oh, I should write some rips. You know it's bad. Because that doesn't never happen. No, so so I gotta figure something out. But it's just been on top of my mind, and thinking of writing and all this kind of shit, and it's extremely complicated, but I'm just gonna be ignorant and I'm gonna throw this out. But like the idea of human beings not wanting to help fellow human beings because they feel like it's not fair. So I was thinking about this, and of course I'm 100% biased in this, but I was talking to my therapist about student loans or something about this, and I remember someone who's in my family, uh extended family, saying a couple years ago when I think it probably Biden was talking about student loan forgiveness or something like that, right? And this person said, Oh, well, I had to pay mine back, so why should people get theirs?
SPEAKER_02You gotta learn a lesson.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you gotta learn a lesson, you gotta take responsibility, which the idea of not only just people, but this individual specifically criticizing a fucking child for taking out you know, student loans and all this stuff is insane and infuriating to me that a person in this person's situation would do that. But because I hey I'm a stickler for fairness, I get it. People cut me off on the road, they don't get pulled over. People speeders, I fucking hate them. I'm just like, God damn it, I wish Yeah, no one likes no one likes a cheater. Yeah, exactly. No one likes a cheater. No one likes a cheater. I get it. You want justice, but that's yeah, you that's and I was thinking about that. I'm like, dude, don't fucking get too uh high and mighty, you know what I mean, on on your own farts there because you get just as indignant about people speeding or something like that. But I'm like, but okay, but speeding isn't helping anybody, right? Like that person's gonna get to work 30 seconds faster, maybe if they hit the right lights. They're really not gonna get to work that much fucking faster. They're already late, they're gonna be late and you're a danger to others. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna put lives at risk when I drive like this. Eminem.
SPEAKER_00There you go. You're so you're gonna hurt your fellow human beings, possibly Eminem. Uh, and you wouldn't want that. He's he's a global icon. But when it comes to something like the student loans, I was just thinking about this person's mentality and of like, oh well, I had to do it, so why should anyone else? Why would I want to help someone else do it? That's like personal responsibility. You need to suffer for what you did because I suffered. And I'm like, that in my head, I was like, that's villain behavior, that's villain thinking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like anytime we have like quote unquote empathetic villains in narrative, it's it's often something terrible happened to them that broke them, and now they want the world to suffer. That's a lot of it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_00That's like a most a foundation kind of thing. It makes us try to empathize with them, like, oh fuck, this tragedy happened to them, or they were wronged in this way, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Or they're misguided because of some kind of previous trauma or something like that. And now they've come to the conclusion that they want to hurt people, and that's gonna make it better somehow when we know it's not going to. And I'm like, that's when you're not looking out for your fellow human beings, that's low-level villain behavior.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's unacceptable.
SPEAKER_02I think also the other ad to it, because I've had those arguments with people in my life, there's a there's an age thing there too, where there's a level of the young kids want it, and there's an entitlement of sure, they get the slate cleaned and then they have an easy life. Yeah. The older generation goes, I don't like that idea.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't like that you're having an easier life. I don't like that we made the same bad decision. I paid for mine, but now I get to watch you kind of dance in the end zone with it and go, ah, no, it doesn't count, psych.
SPEAKER_00Yet they're too fucking stupid to realize it's the selfishness. Their money was worth more back in the day. They didn't have to take out as much. It's they had everything fucking easier, but whatever. It's it's simple inflation. But yeah, but it it it's it just popped into my fucking mind of like, and it is tough. It is fucking tough because there's no true good and evil, no, you know, it's all on a fucking spectrum. I mean, I'm sure there is legitimately good people, I'm sure there's fucking legitimately evil people, but but it's not so black and white. But I'm just like, I have to try not to fall prey myself to that kind of fucking villain thinking. Because it literally, like, if I can do something, it thinking of fucking politically or whatever, right? I mean, obviously the shit show that we're in right now is all just the fucking ruling class, authoritarian autocrats fucking manipulating poor people to hate each other. We've we know this, but there's too many fucking dumb people out there who don't realize it, you know, that are going for Trump and all this stuff. And they're being they're being manipulated, right? Yeah, that's politicians are very fucking good at it, especially this administration, but it's all been fucking laid out, you know, but then these people just don't know they're being taken advantage of. So the villains are taking advantage of them and they're seeding these villainous fucking ideas in their mind of just like, oh, well, what do you mean I'm fucking poor and this person's trying to fucking take my job or getting rid of this immigrant's gonna somehow help me get paid more so I support ICE or whatever the fucking bullshit's like no no no if you fucking see someone get deported and you think your life is gonna be better because of it, and you think you are better than them morally, you are a villain. That's just the truth.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's I don't think our country has put that into enough thought, you know, in terms of in terms of like thinking about it in that narrative sense. Because it when we watch a movie, we know who the good guy is, we know who the bad guy is, we know the hero, we know the villain. And I don't know, the political system's very good at making villains of of you know one another and and the poor and and you know, pinning villainy on marginalized groups and shit like that. We we know this stuff.
SPEAKER_02We know it's easy to say the the Democrats are attacking the nuclear family and we're the villains. Yeah, like that's such an easy spin for them. It's very easy.
SPEAKER_00Is you move the goalpost. And it's it's you don't want to think of yourself with a villain, but there are so many people just with low-level villainous thinking. I don't think those people are are villainous in themselves. Most human beings just want to live their fucking life. Yeah, they just want to get by. You know what I mean? They're not bad people that just I don't believe that. There's that fucking thinking in there, that villainous thinking of not wanting to help your fucking fellow man, and it's infuriating to me. And maybe this ties into the fucking episodes as well. These episodes fucking sucked. Before we get there, can we talk about God damn it, William?
SPEAKER_02No, I we gotta talk about it. I'm trying to say every time I try to segue into the fucking thing, you cut me off. I need one positive. That's okay. We gotta talk about tire season three.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, of course, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because it's really good.
SPEAKER_00That's great.
SPEAKER_02And I mean, it's a show about losers.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02And I think I've I don't know if I've seen someone write about losers with that much empathy and realism. It felt different than a lot of other things I've seen.
SPEAKER_00Well, and and it it is it's as much as it's about like a portrait of losers, it's about the definition of loser. That's what's unique about the show. Because they may be quote unquote losers in fucking life, like Shane doesn't like. I mean, they talk about it multiple episodes. He's like, Yeah, I'd be fucking lame if you know I was at home with my loving wife or whatever the fuck.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, someone nagging, telling me what to do. Yeah, yeah. And like Chris is like, I don't know, it sounds kind of nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's about growing up, it's about being an adult, it's about accepting your life in a way, you know what I mean? Yes, societal losers, but I don't I don't know if that's I feel bad even calling those characters losers.
SPEAKER_02That's the beauty of that.
SPEAKER_00By what metric are they fucking losers? What makes a loser? You know what I mean? I think that's the whole thing. We have a stereotype of it, but in this, that's like they're just fucking there's a difference between a loser and white trash and working class.
SPEAKER_02And this they're often all put together, but and I think Shane's character has always been for all the seasons, lack of ambition.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I am floored by the writing. Shout out McKeever. John McKeever is a godsend for these guys because he's he's weaving things in here, and it's gotta come from McKeever. But when Shane gets the Lib girl pregnant, goes to her house with the flowers, sits down, and she's like, I don't know what we're gonna do. And he kind of says, I don't know, isn't this kind of what's supposed to happen? That blew me the fuck away, dude. Like it legitimately like stopped me in my tracks of like who's writing those characters of a guy that's like, I don't know, I think I was supposed to have a kid on accident. Yeah, yeah. Isn't that just how life that's just life? This is what yeah, yeah. Guys like me, this is what I do. Yeah, I work a job and I f I fall into having a kid, and I don't know, it is what it is. Yeah, like who writes that guy?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's insane to me. And that was such a moving moment for him to also play it of like, I don't know, this could be good. Yeah, yeah. It's a wonderful moment, so nice. It's such a wonderful moment in the world. And just the text, yeah, about the name.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Yeah, no, but keep thinking, yeah.
SPEAKER_02There's there's stuff in here that I'm just like, yeah, this is they're they're talking about people in the punchline's not where you always think it's gonna be.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's what's fun about it. Because the other thing about Shane's character, he is charming and good with women to an extent. Yeah. And then the the the the low confidence or the circumstance takes him out of it where like he can flirt, but the true honest reality of it is is like his depression and his angst gets in the way every single time. And William, I mean the show, it it's he's not the joke's not he's a womanizer, and the joke's also not that he's like an incel. Yeah, it's a beautiful, messy middle ground of you would think he'd be bad, he's kind of okay, but he just can't seal the deal. Yeah, that's so much more funnier and so much more relatable, yeah, than just dumb Republican guy says offensive stuff, and then that's the show.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And it has no problem being earnest, as much as they give him a hard time, they give each their their friends, they're I guess they're cousins, right? But him and Will. But the show is not afraid to show that they are not losers when it comes to their friends and their friendship. And even though they have problems with their family, these this group of people is there for each other and they express the love for each other all the fucking time, yeah, even though they're busting balls consistently. I think that's why it's like it walks that line perfectly of like, are these people fucking losers? They don't have anything, it doesn't seem like they have anything, exactly, but actually they do have a lot, yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, you go to a bar and the more successful, attractive people that are picking on you have a great little party get they go back to the place and they play volleyball themselves and they had a way better night. And it's that idea of like society deems them losers because it's working class and you're you don't have families and you're drunk in the middle of the day, but then you look at it as like, no, they're better friends for each other than every other group of people you've seen in this show. Yeah, McKeever set it up of like Dan Soder's brother. Those aren't good family members, exactly, they don't love each other. The girls at the the women event, they all hate each other, they all shit on like every other, every other group of people, they hate each other. Yeah, and they're not happy this group of friends, these people, this is a this is a built selected family. They legit love each other, they take care of each other, even though it's completely dysfunctional. Yeah, it's such a beautiful thing he did with that. Every time you come across another relationship, it's like nah, it's that's true dysfunction. Yeah, this is weird, and you would on the outside deem this losers, but there's a heart, there's an honesty, and I think that's when I look at loser, it is the thing of lack of ambition. Steve's care Girby, that's all he has is ambition.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like he's not hindered by a physical disability, by his weirdness, by his odd sexuality. Like, none of those things are in his way. He's so ambitious, he it almost as if he forgets those exist. This for three seasons, they bring up his disability for the first time in this season. Yeah, it's never been even mentioned.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's also, I'm just like And it's for a joke.
SPEAKER_00It's like with me and your disability.
SPEAKER_02My charm, your disability will eat up, it will they'll eat it up. Yeah, but like he has that ambition, but he's just stuck in a working class world of how hard how high does that go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And he's stuck in the middle between he can't ex execute those ambitions because he's he's a middle manager.
SPEAKER_02And his goal is just to be successful for him and the people he loves. Yeah. That's it. Yeah, he doesn't want to be a billionaire. No, he doesn't want to change the world. Yeah. Just wants to keep the shop open and keep everybody's job.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02And that's where it's like on the outside, you look at this show and it's burnout losers, but it's like, I don't know, man. They're doing it. I mean, they're doing it better than I am. I haven't had a night like their volleyball getting drunk night. I haven't had that in a long time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know the last time that I've cried being so happy around people like that. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, I'm just like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They're talking about being losers, but like I I don't know if that's what this is. But him accepting the kid, that I've never heard a line more just like that's so grounded in you you have confidence in your characters.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02And these uh they're like, yeah, Steve Gerbin will, he's a legit good actor. Oh, he's great, he's doing some really good stuff.
SPEAKER_00And this is all he does. This is it. It's insane. I mean, he's co-creator and he writes some of the episode, but it's like, yeah, he's so fucking good. Yeah, yeah. He's amazing, and yeah, I mean, that's one of the things about these guys, too, uh, these characters is they are unabashedly themselves. And that's what you know, when it comes to all those other groups around them, the false fucking people who who are more successful but they're they're less happy, they're being fake. Yep. They're being fake, and these are genuineness, yeah. There's a genuineness, and they care for each other as much as they give each other a hard time about who they are, whatever. They give Will a hard time about being the sexuality that you are as well. I don't know who you're talking about. And uh, but yeah, he's like, Yeah, it's just how it is. Yeah, you know, yeah, it's uh they're they're genuine, genuine people, which is something to aspire to, which me and you that's tough.
SPEAKER_02It is, and that's I think why I I I do really love this show. Yeah, and it's also it it's so much better than what it would what I think people assumed.
SPEAKER_00Oh, of course. People who haven't seen it are just like, oh, I know what it is.
SPEAKER_02No, you don't it's it's the Shane Gillis says a racist comment every other episode. Like it's not yeah, it's not I mean the the stav is cartoonish in the Italian, the Andrew Schultz topic. That's all there, but like again, McKeever's threading other lines that like yeah you can tell he's a legit artist that wants to work in this medium.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're telling a legitimate. Human story. And there, yeah, there's silly hygiene caricatures on the side for sure. And Stabb's trying his best.
SPEAKER_02He is.
SPEAKER_00He's trying his best.
SPEAKER_02He is. He's not a great actor, but I'm like, he's trying. He's going for it. He's he's putting the work in. Yeah, yeah. H Foley, though, natural. Dude, he's so fucking good. Natural. Yeah, he's so good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Just the disdain that he has for his career. Fucking coworkers. This is so fucking funny. Yeah. But he's a great actor, yeah. Yeah. Foley needs to do more work. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It needs the money. He needs a lot of help. It's a good show, man. This season meant a lot to me. Watching this, I was like, this is really good. And it's really cool to see Shane be as successful as he is. And the initial story is Steve Gerbin wrote this so long ago. The one check Shane got for Saturday Night Live, and then he got fired. He went straight to McKeever and Steven says, Let's just do the show. And he paid the whole first season. Yeah. He's like all his money went to his friend's idea. Yeah. Like that's that's cool. Yeah. Again, working class stand-up guys there for their family, for their friends. Yeah. They're not climbers. They're not like it's it is cool to see.
SPEAKER_00It's almost like somebody paid for my comic to get made, William. I don't know what you're talking about. Single tier. I love you. I love you too. You know what I don't love?
SPEAKER_02These don't love these three episodes.
SPEAKER_00Couldn't stand them.
SPEAKER_02I it felt like a lot of holding.
SPEAKER_00It's both. A lot of waiting. Me and Kara were like, fucking get to it. Yeah, get there. I can't. So and as much as we've been complaining for the past over an hour, I have legitimate narrative complaints that pop up with these episodes. Because of course things happen, right? We have the first episode, they plan with the commander. Okay, you're you're we're gonna use Aaron as a titan to go plug up the hole. Okay, go and do that. So what happens at the end? Aaron turns into the fucking Titan and he punches Mikasa. All right, that's the end of the whole fucking episode, right? And then we have the second episode where they're like, what's going on with Aaron? What is fucking happening? We have some interesting lore stuff there, right? We have Aaron is in his own head, he's at home, he's wrapped up, he's comfortable, his parents are alive. I guess his dad's still alive, right? But his mom's still alive, Mikas is there, he's at home, he's content. Yeah, he doesn't know safe space, happy place the body of a fucking titan. So, what does that tell us? And he had to have Armin come and get him out. That tells us that the people who are in the fucking Titans are in some kind of fucking trance. They don't know what they're fucking doing. So to me, I was like, oh, this is kind of interesting. This is some kind of lore building, maybe this means something. Maybe the Titans are some kind of parasite that they need a human controller, and this is some kind of venom symbiote suit thing, which also I haven't run into spoilers yet, but I did see another poster. See, this is the thing with Instagram. I saw a poster, you know, a couple weeks ago. I mentioned on the podcast, yeah, just some characters in the foreground, there's some giant thing in the background. Try not to pay attention to it. But that was imagery I've seen before, tangentially, kind of, that I'm just trying not to think about it narratively. But this other one didn't really have anything a lot to do with Attack on Titan, had to do with other anime, and I saw of something from Attack on Titan in this poster, and I was just like, oh, this is kind of fascinating. So I saw something, and I don't know if how obviously I don't think it's obvious to other people. I don't think this is the twist of you know whatever crazy narrative thing is supposed to happen in season three, that's supposed to be some of the best anime ever. But like I was like, oh, cool, this is it's a kind of a different way to think about this show, which I had I have heard people mention before, and I just forgotten about it, and but I don't want to mention it because I don't know if it ties into bigger stuff. So we'll talk about it maybe at the end if it doesn't come up.
SPEAKER_02Okay. But I have two slight spoilers. One person told me uh one thing, and I won't say it until we get there, and then I'll go, okay, now I see how these pieces fall together. But I thought about this when you brought up the poster, and it's so funny. A similar thing happened to me where it was an Instagram reel where a guy was uh making a spoof on attack on Titan. Oh, and he was I I forgot the joke, it was a joke type of spoof, but in his thing, he was like standing there and he had to fight somebody, so he bit his thumb and turned into a Titan. And I swiped away. I was like, I don't know what that means, and I don't want to think about it, but now I get it. Yeah, but I watched I saw that early, early on, and I was like, that might be something.
SPEAKER_00Wait, get away, get away. That's funny. Yeah, that's hilarious. Yeah, I didn't have that spoiled, luckily. Why I said I haven't had that spoiled to cut that out. Fuck who gives a shit, Nick?
SPEAKER_02Jesus, I didn't have that experience, William. That exact thing that happened to you, it actually didn't happen to me.
SPEAKER_00So it invalidates your entire experience.
SPEAKER_02So why'd you bring it up? William, why are you saying things that didn't actually happen to me? And I need to tell you it didn't happen to me. The closing statement to this conversation is me letting you know that didn't happen to me. Now change the subject.
SPEAKER_00What's wrong with me, man? God damn it. I hate that. Uh Jesus. I need help. That's so funny. I need help, man. But that's what my thinking was with the that second episode of like, okay, we have some potential new lore. Okay. And I I obviously I think we're gonna find some answers eventually in this series, but that's a fascinating thing to think about. Those people in there are probably in some kind of trance, or there are probably people in these titans and they are stuck in some kind of trance. What does that mean for the Titans? What does that mean for the people? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02What kind of people? What kind of trance? Still, what's the point? What's the purpose of a Titan?
SPEAKER_00Still a million questions. Exactly. But so we have that, he does come out of it, and right, that's the end of the third episode. They're like, oh, now it's gonna, or the end of the second episode, now we're gonna get to the fucking boulder.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The way he comes out of it was fascinating, though. Yes, his friend is talking to him, and he's still envisioning him in the window in his dream state.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Then he turns on fire and says, The outside world is my birthright.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02And then he wakes up with the rage. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00And he's like smoking, he's literally smoking. The Titan. The Titan smoke, yes, as he's carrying uh the boulder, which they do successfully, get the boulder back. A lot of people fucking die again. We have a lot of people being fucking scared again. And the episode ends with these in jail, but Mr. Cool Levi, Cape Boy, uh sh what did the uh the what did he I can't remember what the scout's gonna be a scout, exactly, and the leader said, cool, I'll take responsibility for that. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So it's cool. We we ended this kind of interesting point. But the way that they tell this fucking story is so frustrating to me. Like, and I was able to piece it together hopefully a little more coherently than usual in my head. Okay. So I've complained about the still shots. I still can't get into the still shots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think they should be reserved for establishing shots and wide shots. And I think the reason they don't work for me is because they cut in between movement slash animated shots of like them walking down the stairs, and then we cut to a freeze frame of that same thing. They're on the stairs, and then after that freeze frame, we cut back to them walking down the stairs. Do not enter cut action with stillness. That's what takes me out of it. I don't like that. You can easily use still frames where you just tilt or pan, you know, you do can't can burn shit, yeah, which all animation does. Do that with establishing shots. Start with one, show some action, change a fucking establishing shot. Voice off screen the shot. Yeah, show a still thing, a fucking environmental still while you're keeping the dialogue running, then cut back to action. Do not give me still shots that I have seen in action previously. I'm like, come on, guys, fucking that that's it seems simple. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Because at a certain point you're like, you just cut the still out.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_02You would literally just remove it.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. I get you. Bugs the crap out of me. But that one kind of became clear watching these episodes, and then the narrative slowness, just the way that they structure the episodes, there's not enough narrative propellant in every scene. Things happen in every scene, but they're not always caused by characters and their actions. There's a lot of times that it's just exposition. So it comes back to that old you know, fucking Trey Parker Matstone South Park video on YouTube. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Ergo.
SPEAKER_00There's a lot of this happens and then this happens and then this happens and then this happens. Each scene is not propelling the net scene forward. So where they talk about you have to have therefore and but in between scenes, this happens, therefore it propels into this scene. But then this unexpected thing happens, which causes this, which therefore causes this. It's a whole yeah, I think a lot of writers are scared of it, and I think it's easier to see if you uh watch or examine something that you really like and that works for you. You will see those buts and therefores in those kind of stories. And if something doesn't click for you and you're like, ah, that feels kind of off. Generally, it's a this happens and then this happens and then this happens. There's not enough narrative.
SPEAKER_02There's the cop-out defense. This is more of a character study. This is more of a we're just living in the moment. Sure. That's the defense, but that's a cop-out because you can do both at the same time.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And you can condense things, and a lot of the stuff that we have seen and that we're seeing repeatedly over and over and over and over and over in the show. I fucking pray that there is a narrative reason behind it. I want there to be a narrative reason of why people are so fucking terrified of the Titans. Because this many episodes in, these fucking people who freeze up when a Titan is attacking and eating somebody. I'm like, what are you doing? You trained for this. Yeah. What the fuck is happening?
SPEAKER_02Do something at this point You sound like me yelling at Shinji. Well, that's just do it already.
SPEAKER_00Guess what? Evangelion's already half over at this point. Could you fucking imagine if Evangelion went at this pace? It'd be infuriating. Like, for real, watching these episodes, I'm like, dude, imagine watching the first episode that we watched for today's uh podcast weekly. You have been wanting to watch Attack on Titan, and you're like, oh shit, fucking they're about to they're about to go talk to the commander and get shit going. And the whole thing is the commander just fucking talking about people. And I get it.
SPEAKER_02The whole episode was we're getting ready.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And then you have to wait a whole nother week. And actually, from what I hear, the release pattern for Attack on Titan was really fucked and really made people mad when it was coming out because they would take very long gaps. There was like three or four years in between seasons one and two, and then they split up arcs uh for the final season and all this kind of stuff where there was like months and months and months in between. So we'll we'll have to actually verify that and yeah, we'll look in timelines. But um, I get wanting to emphasize how humanity's feeling, and we get to see the commander act differently than the previous fucking lieutenant or whoever the fucking coward guy was. I'm glad that we we we have like, oh, this is a competent military person for once. But like, and I understand we want to see the differences there, but there is no no as too hyperbolic, there is very little dramatic tension in every scene where you need that. Every scene needs to have its own little story and needs to propel you into the next scene, and so on and so forth. And a lot of times with this, these scenes are so fucking drawn out that there's it doesn't feel like there's any conflict. It just feels like oh, the characters are just talking about doing something, they're not actually doing something, and they're not running into a problem that they're trying to solve, which is gonna take them into the next scene, and they're not solving a problem in the next scene. Like, you know what I mean? Like they're just oh, they're running down the wall, and the lady's just telling Aaron, hey, these people are gonna die, and it's gonna be your fault. So keep that in mind.
SPEAKER_02Okay, we're starting the mission. It feels it it feels like the the focus isn't a narrative focus, the focus is a lot of we're still living with their emotional state, and we're doing that in episodes 11, 12, and 13 where I felt like I got it and I I got my fill by episode six or seven. Like the fact that I'm still in the guys I'm scared, or guys I'm not equipped, or guys this is hard. I'm like, I I feel like you you did a good enough job. I don't need it again, I don't need it even more, and that's what these episodes felt like is almost a reset of I need to remind you how bleak and sad and scary and hard this is and how ill-equipped humanity is. It's like I actually didn't need that reset. This broke the pacing because the last ones there was a lot of forward momentum on the story and the ideas and the world building. I was like, why did we start over and went back to the as if I forgot?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this this could I get that this could have been one episode. Like it or two, you know what I mean? Two at the most. It should not have been three episodes.
SPEAKER_02Or if it's three episodes, like you're saying, you need you need interpersonal for it. Well, uh you need growth of something somewhere, and we're still just kind of sitting in the emotion because it feels like they're still trying to prove their point.
SPEAKER_00And with so many of the soldiers losing their shit and just being the same fucking terrified, blah blah blah. What it has done, at least for me, and this is me being a fucking a villain, this is villain thinking, you know what I mean? I'm tapping into my own shit. Fucking loser, fucking I hate that I've and by the turn villain thinking. I hate myself. The and bye-bye.
unknownStupid piece of shit.
SPEAKER_00All these people, it's taken a turn. Where when I first saw them be scared, I was like, Oh, okay, that sucks. It would suck to be in that position, which I didn't really feel like that. I don't think this thing is that scary, but I'm like, okay, you're trying to get me to empathize with these people and show me how horrific it is. And now at this point, they're still just fucking screaming and shit. I'm like, you know, motherfucker, I wish the titans would eat all of you. Fuck off. Like for for real. Fuck off. Nick's over it.
SPEAKER_02You suck. If it sucks is suck. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like Darwinism. Eaching.
SPEAKER_00No, it's like you were I thought you were trained to do this shit. You fucking I so now I'm rooting for the Titans to eat you. I'm not rooting for you to gain your courage and go kill a Titan. Yeah, I'm rooting for you to shut the fuck up.
SPEAKER_02Because you're annoying with the whinging enough with the whinging. You know what I mean? I I don't agree, but I get it. I know exactly what you're saying. I do I do. I I think I'm still on board with the idea of they're spending a lot of time showing us this is the best of the best, and it ain't good enough, and this is as prepared as but they're not even the best of the best.
SPEAKER_00Because then you have this these the fucking scouts, and I'm like, where the fuck were these guys? What so they went out to the forest for what?
SPEAKER_02Um I don't know. I that's gotta be a thing. It's gotta what's on the outside and what they're doing out there, it's that's gotta be a huge revelation. Because he was out there, yeah. You're absolutely but um no. My my thing that I was bumping up against with in relation to this is you guys spent a lot of time distracting Titans, like jumping at them, jumping in front of their face or cutting their cheek. I was like, uh jump at the neck. Why is there so much air not just jump at the neck?
SPEAKER_00I don't get it.
SPEAKER_02And how are these big and dumb?
SPEAKER_00Like how are they sneaking up on people?
SPEAKER_02Can you sneak up on them and cut them from behind?
SPEAKER_00Do they have good senses of smell? If they do, tell us.
SPEAKER_02I felt like there were too many moments of like instead of what you did, that could have been a kill shot. Yeah. What happened? What are you guys doing?
SPEAKER_00I don't get it. Yeah, yeah. It doesn't, it's just it's frustrating. It's be it's tipped over that point of just kind of confounding and frustrating. But the little kind of lore teases are are still keeping me engaged. And with speaking of the bite, which got spoiled for you and not for me, I just have to clarify that for some fucking reason.
SPEAKER_02Because Nick didn't do it as a joke the second time, he actually had to do that.
SPEAKER_00No, I did it as a joke right there. Are you sure? No, I did. Okay, good. Good. I did. I'll believe it. The first time it wasn't a joke. I know. But they mention, at least I think it's the scouts mention at the end. They're like, oh, well, the giant skeletal titan and the what do they call it? The armored and the colossal. The armored and the colossal. They're now scientists, whoever these unseen scientists are like, they're thinking they are related to you in a way. They might be a titan like you. So speaking of the bite in my head, I'm like, that might explain why this fucking titan appears and it disappears. There's lightning, yes, when the colossal appears, but I'm not sure about the armored. But I'm like, this could hint at maybe someone is those titans. Maybe there are people who are transforming into them and then transforming out of them and going away.
SPEAKER_02So that's kind of intriguing. Someone walked up to the wall undetected because they're five foot eight. Yeah, because they're a person, they which is normal size, by the way. Five foot eight's perfectly fine. And then they bite themselves, and then they grew up. Become the colossal titan. And when he got attacked, he died. Like it went back to human form. Yeah. It's uh yeah. I was thinking about that too. And then it's also humanity required an enemy greater than itself to survive. Yes. Now we're dealing with scientists are genetically modifying or creating people with powers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You just added there's a reason.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's fascinating to me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Can we, and by can we, are we gonna get into evil government massacre type uh Thanos of like, well, we gotta kill half the population for resource, or like is there nefarious weird Nazi scientist stuff going on now that led to this? Now that there might be a human decision into bringing this about, I'm like, okay, I'm back in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I I I didn't leave, but I'm I'm like, yes, I need more. Yeah, I do need more of this show. I just need less of the stop setting the table and stop reminding me of a thing you you very skillfully reminded me of. Yes. I had plenty of time to look at this and go, this is horrible. Yeah, exactly. You don't have to keep going. But if you're gonna keep going, I do like that they did um like a ground level. I'm not flying around on the the roofs, I'm on the floor trying to grab another piece of equipment because mine malfunctioned. It's like this, I I I like hiding in the room. Yeah, I was like, okay, that's different. I like that, I'm here for that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm I'm glad that they mixed it up and showed that because yeah, a bunch of people would be doing that. Yeah. Um, and yeah, and if it's a single person, they've already said that the titans are attracted to groups of people. So if it's a single person, then they might not notice. But also, speaking of the swinging and all this kind of stuff, yeah. When Aaron is he's get gets taken out of whatever is, or no, I can't remember. Yeah, maybe it is at the end of that first one where he's swinging towards the boulder and he bites himself and then he turns into the Titan. Yeah. When he's swinging across towards the boulder, I'm like, how has Marvel seen this? I assume someone in Marvel seen this, I would hope. And weren't like, okay, let's fucking make a Spider Man anime. Because I was like, this is perfect Spider Man swinging shit, super stylized. Why not make some badass. Spider-Man anime. That's just right there. Just fucking do it. That's money on the fucking table. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02How'd they make Batman a samurai before they made Spider-Man an anime? Don't get it.
SPEAKER_00But yeah. Wasn't a fucking fan. I'm I was just like, God, if I was watching this episodically, I would just not, I'd stop watching it. I would not watch this. I like the lore. I'm I'm they have me. I want to learn fucking more, but it's time to move forward.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I felt it more than I've ever felt it with the specifically the first two episodes. I was like, I've been here, guys. Yeah, we're treading water. Yeah, and it's now's not the time. Yeah. Yeah, I felt it. The 11 worst episode we've done so far.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02But then he turns to fire and he yells, the outside world's my birthright. Yeah, that's pretty simple. So I was like, yeah, uh shout out free Palestine. Because yeah. True. We're gonna grow the settlements. We're going out, we're gonna expand. It's my birthright. I but hey, that beach belongs to me.
SPEAKER_00Does it belong to you? Don't worry about it. Oh, have any random stuff?
SPEAKER_02Another thing I'm looking forward to, they captured two Titans. And the amount of nails that were dug into them, just like willy-nilly driven into their arms and legs to keep them on the floor. I was like, that's cool. Yeah, I'm excited for that. Great design. Titan vomit. Yes. With a bunch of people and skulls and teeth.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, which I'm like, why are you only now introducing this? It's like, come on, this this could have been you could be planting all these little lore things in these episodes more and have that be a fucking B plot or a C plot or a D plot of an episode. You know what I mean? Come like there's so much fucking ripe stuff right there. Oh yeah. Uh speaking of the speech when they're running towards the rock, that girl is you know lecturing Aaron. And when she said, uh, take everything that comes with deadly seriousness, Kiris like, isn't he already doing that? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, I love the line uh that comes from the commander. This is the threshold of our extinction soldiers. That is cool, it's epic. Oh, and then one of the characters says, I'm thinking about this too. Oh yeah, I think it's uh who is maybe it's I can't remember. It's one of the main protagonists, but they say, I'm thinking about this too much. I need to focus on doing. So I wrote that, and then I put in all caps, the show needs to do this. Yeah, get to doing and yeah, yeah, and I like the we're born free, all of us are, you know, that kind of thing. And and yeah, the fucking song that's playing during the rock, it's like less prog, coheating cambria. I was just like, I don't, I don't like this. I don't no, thank you. No, thank you.
SPEAKER_02You ever heard Welcome Home?
SPEAKER_00And then speaking of the Titan vomit, there's like one of they see some one of the characters sees a dead guy, it's like, oh, it's Marco. I'm like, who's Marco? Who the fuck that guy is? What like there's too many characters for me to that I'm supposed to fucking care about. Kind of bugged me. Like, I don't there's too many of you guys that I don't know, but whatever. Next week, luckily, we are starting a new arc. It's a three-episode mini arc, of course, as it goes with this show. So, yeah, we're gonna watch the next three episodes. Yeah, the three are doing us well. Yes, yeah, I think it's a good pace. We'll probably stick with that unless it's you know crazy. You know what I mean? Yeah, we're we're trying to we'll let trying to let you guys know every week what we're gonna be talking about next week. So yeah, the next three episodes, which are 14, 15, and 16. And hopefully I want them to be better because I don't want to complain as much as we did this week. Now I feel bad at the end of the recording of how much we bitched about stuff, but actually there's a lot of good stuff in there, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, we're working on our mental health, all right, guys. Have you heard the podcast before? Yeah. Now I'm just turning on the audience.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. What do you want from us? Brilliant. You fucking assholes. Brilliant. Judging us when we don't know. And if anyone's told you, they're probably like, oh, good episodes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's pretty good. Oh so yeah, we're fine.
SPEAKER_02We'll be back next week.
SPEAKER_00What are you worried about? Um, with the next three episodes of Attack on Titan.
SPEAKER_02I love you.
SPEAKER_00I love you too.
